Hyrule has changed drastically following the Upheaval inThe Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, butBreath of the Wildfans may still visit an iconic location from Link’s previous adventure.
Players may explore areas they last visited inThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, discover new secrets, and search thesky islands above Hyrule inZelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The Upheaval launched debris across the entire nation of Hyrule, destroying villages and causing monsters to migrate to areas closer to Central Hyrule. This event also created chasms that provide entry into the Depths, an ancient and blighted land underneath Hyrule. Despite the far-reaching and lasting effects of the Upheaval, several locations were left largely intact, including Kakariko Village and Rito Village.

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomplayer MrAngero decided to recreate the opening sequence ofBreath of the Wildafter revisiting the Great Plateau. The cave where Link first awakened and re-entered Hyrule still exists inZelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and MrAngero may be seen walking forward to the edge of the plateau’s cliff. InZelda:Breath of the Wild, the game’s title drops as Link views Hyrule for the first time in over a hundred years from the Great Plateau. The music and logo fromZelda: Breath of the Wild’sopening sequence are no longer available inZelda: Tears of the Kingdom, so MrAngero edited in these elements to recreate the iconic scene in the game.
The Old Man fromZelda: Breath of the Wildwas replaced by President Hudson in MrAngero’s recreation. MrAngero appears to have transported the character fromTarrey Town in Akkalato the Great Plateau, but the exact methods for moving this character were not shared by the user. However, players may attempt to transport characters and Koroks by building vehicles and flying machines with the Ultrahand ability.
AlthoughHyrule Castle and the surrounding areashave changed inZelda: Tears of the Kingdom, MrAngero faithfully recapturedZelda: Breath of the Wild’simpressive opening with a more powerful and experienced Link. Both openings emphasize a sense of exploration and freedom, and MrAngero’s recreated opening retains those qualities by highlighting Central Hyrule, a vast open field with smaller areas and secrets to discover.
Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomplayers will likely continue to share their findings and creations within the game’s vast world. Link’s assortment of abilities allows players to use nearby materials and build unique contraptions ranging fromaZelda: Spirit Tracks-inspired trainto a powerful attack helicopter.
