Yakuza Kiwami 2features a substory called “Against All Odds,” where a desperate gambler begs Kiryu to take his place in a high stakes mahjong game going badly. It’s already a difficult challenge, and it doesn’t help that most of the international audience won’t know how to play. Thankfully, the developers put in a simple workaround.

The Basics of Mahjong

Mahjong is an incredible board game, but it’s also a complex one, and takes some time to learn.Yakuza Kiwami 2gives players enough tools to learn it themselves, but the “Against All Odds” substory is a poor place to learn, considering the player starts with the bare minimum of points, and can’t afford to lose a single hand.

The game, instead, gives the player a way to cheat their way through the match. But they should learn the absolute bare minimum, just so they understand what’s going on.

Mahjong is a game that’s like a combination of Rummy and Poker. Players take turns drawing and discarding tiles to make sets of three: either triplets, like 1-1-1, or runs, like 4-5-6. Most winning hands will be 4 sets of three and a pair of extra matching tiles, although there are a few exceptions.

Whoever completes their hand first wins the round. They’re then scored by how valuable their hand is. For example, a hand that’s all triplets gets more points than a hand that’s all runs.

Yakuza Kiwami 2features a hidden cheat item called the Peerless Tile. When using it at a mahjong game, the player will be dealt one of the strongest hands, a yakuman, at the first turn, instantly ending the game.

Finding and Using The Peerless Tile

Conveniently, the game places one right next to the substory’s location. Right belowLulluby Mahjong in Kamurochois a small office building, with a wall of boxes near the back wall. Behind it, they’ll find the peerless tile on the floor. If the player has already found and used this one, there’s another above the gambling den in Sotenbori, later in the game.

Once the player has the tile, they can take their seat at the table, and the game will ask them if they want to use it. If they say yes, then it will automatically deal them a game winning hand. From there, they will be given the option to “Riichi” or “Tsumo.“The player should choose the latter, as it’s declaring a win.

Yakuza Kiwami 2is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
