GreedFall 2: The Dying Worldis undoubtedly going to be set apart from its predecessor in several ways, simply due to its developer, Spiders, taking a different approach with its development than it did the firstGreedFall. Specifically, unlike the first game,GreedFall 2will go through an early access period to allow players to be a part of the development process. Spiders believes this will ultimately be beneficial for the sequel, asGreedFall 2’s players can help transform it into the ideal experience through their feedback. As such,GreedFall 2is bound to be a much different experience from the first game.
WhileGreedFall 2’s early accesswill certainly separate it from its predecessor, what has already been revealed of its story will apparently be quite different as well. Playing asGreedFall 2’s protagonist, in particular, will likely be a unique experience for fans of the franchise, as the game’s premise and what has been disclosed about the protagonist’s background suggest their life will be starkly different from that ofGreedFall’s protagonist, De Sardet. Several things can be assumed about the wayGreedFall 2’s protagonist will be viewed, treated, and spoken to, simply based on where they come from and how that factors into the world ofGreedFall.

How GreedFall 2’s Protagonist Differs From De Sardet
De Sardet Is a Respected Noble and Diplomat in GreedFall
De Sardet is the main protagonist inGreedFalland the character players control throughout the game. They were born into a noble family from theOld Continent of Gacaneafter the foundation of Serene, the largest city of the Congregation of Merchants. Along with their cousin, Constantin d’Orsay, De Sardet is assigned the role of Legate of New Serene and sent to the island of Teer Fradee to investigate rumors of a cure for the Malichor that now plagues their dying mother. Despite discovering later in the story that they are actually a native of Teer Fradee, De Sardet’s noble family is the only one they have ever known.
As a noble, De Sardet is typically treated with courtesy and respect by others. Aside from the natives of Teer Fradee, who have a general disdain for the outsiders who are exploiting the island’s resources, those De Sardet encounters know they are not only a Legate but also a member ofthe noble De Sardet familyand are meant to be treated with dignity. That being said, there are others whose selfish intentions rob them of any respect for De Sardet, regardless of the protagonist’s background. Even so, De Sardet is likely far better off thanGreedFall 2’s protagonist will be.
GreedFall 2’s Protagonist Is a Teer Fradee Native During a Volatile Time
While De Sardet is, in fact, a Teer Fradee native, they are still treated with much respect due to their noble upbringing.GreedFall 2’s protagonist, on the other hand, is an outrightTeer Fradeenative, and that carries with it some weighty implications.GreedFall 2is set three years before the events ofGreedFall, and the Malichor is just beginning to spread. Unfortunately, this means the once-sacred island of Teer Fradee is now being invaded by outsiders who arrive after learning of a possible cure for the Malichor.
According toGreedFalllore, many of these outsiders, like theBridge Alliance, care little for Teer Fradee natives and tend to treat them like dirt, simply because these outsiders view the natives as nothing more than obstacles in their way. This doesn’t bode well forGreedFall 2’s protagonist, as it means they may be looked down on, shamed, and belittled for their ethnic roots. As such, they won’t get the same respect that De Sardet received inGreedFall. Some of this has already been revealed in footage forGreedFall 2, but it’s likely only the tip of the iceberg.
