Summary
The anticipation forReacherseason 3 is palpable after the amazing success of Season 2, which finished streaming onPrime Videoin January. Production is already underway in Toronto for the next season with fans eager to know which of Lee Child’s thrilling novels will be the focus of the new season.
Alan Ritchson will return as the eponymous hero, Jack Reacher and Maria Sten has also been confirmed to reprise her fan favorite role ofFrances Neagleyin the third run. Details surrounding the rest of the cast have been kept under wraps for now, but don’t be surprised if a few familiar faces turn up in guest roles to support Reacher in his new mission.

What book will Reacher season 3 be based on?
Reacherseason 3 has been confirmed to be based on Lee Child’s seventh book,Persuader, Nick Santora will serve as the showrunner once again, and will also return as executive producer for Season 3 alongside original author Lee Child, and Alan Ritchson is also serving as executive producer for the new season.
Season 1 was based on the first book in the series,Killing Floor, with the eleventh book,Bad Luck and Troubleacting as the source material forReacherseason 2, but it’s no surprise thatReacherseason 3 is not based on a later book in the series as the books can be read in any order, giving the production team the freedom to explore Child’s back catalog.

Nick Santora sat down withThe Hollywood Reporterto tease what to expect from the upcoming season 3:
I can tell you Reacher is going to kick the crap out of people; he’s going to be incredibly smart and deductive in figuring things out; he’s going to be a hero and he is going to help save the day! He’s going to be Jack Reacher.

What is Persuader about?
The blurb forPersuaderreads as follows: ‘Reacher must go undercover to rescue an informant held by a haunting foe from his past.’ This is an intriguing log line and an exciting tease ofwhat to expect from Reacherseason 3. Of course, there will be some deviations from the source material, but if the first two seasons are anything to go by, a lot will stay the same.
Reacher will get caught up in the middle of an undercover operation, which involves him teaming up with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to take down a drug smuggler called Zachary Beck. Reacher used his late brother, Joe’s federal connections during his investigation of New Age Technologies in season 2, making it possible that the new season could swap the DEA for Homeland Security, facilitating a return to the show for Agent Omar Karim. However, nothing has been confirmed yet.
It wouldn’t beReacherwithout a love interest for the self-confessed commitment phobe, and inPersuader, he strikes up a romantic relationship with a DEA agent called Susan Duffy, so it’s highly likely her character will appear in season 3. Duffy will have her work cut out following in the footsteps of Roscoe Conklin and Karla Dixon, but if they get the casting right, it could be Reacher’s best love interest yet.
InPersuader, Reacher rescues Beck’s son, Richard, from a fake kidnapping in order to gain his trust during the undercover operation, and this could be an interesting dynamic for the ex-military investigator to deal with a child, especially as his lack of experience with dealing with children had hilarious consequences in season 2 when interacting with Marlo Burns' daughter, Jane.
The main villain inPersuaderis a man called Francis Xavier Quinn, who Reacher thought was dead, and when he finds out he is indeed alive, his thirst for revenge, which was seen in the first two seasons, is back stronger than ever, as Quinn was responsible for his old ally, Dominique Kohl’s death. And based on what Reacher did to the people that messed with the Special Investigators in season 2, fans can expect Season 3 to be just as violent and vengeful.
One of the key settings ofPersuaderalso makes a fan favorite return more likely as Boston is a key location in the book, paving the way for the logical return of Oscar Finlay, who is revealed to be residing in Boston when he appeared in a cameo to help Reacher in season 2. However, previous seasons have changed locations from the books, so there is no guarantee Boston or Finlay will feature in season 3.
Every season of the Prime Video hit has surrounded Reacher with a brand-new group of supporting characters to help him solve the case, and this is likely the direction season 3 will take as well. However, as the show progresses, fans are more eager to see the return of their favorite characters from the past. It would be a crowd pleasing moment if David O’Donnell andKarla Dixonre-united with Reacher and Neagley to kick ass in season 3, despite them not featuring in thePersuaderbook, but their returns would have to service the plot first and foremost. Regardless of whether this happens or not, the new crop of characters in season 3 are bound to be just as compelling as their predecessors.
