WandaVisionfans have been unsure about the future of Billy and Tommy in the MCU since they first appeared in the series. Episode seven, “Breaking The Fourth Wall,” has viewers even more unsure about the future of the twins in not only the MCU, but the series itself. While it’s been one of the theories regarding Billy and Tommy for a while, episode seven further opens up the possibility that Billy and Tommy might not make it out of the series.

What Happened To The Twins in Episode 7?

Episode 7 ofWandaVision, “Breaking the Fourth Wall” is set in the most contemporary sitcom era yet, resemblingModern Family. After the events of episode six, Wanda decides she wants to take a day just for herself, so Agnes offers to take care of Billy and Tommy. At her house, Billy says he likes it at Agnes' house because it is quiet, and tells Agnes, “You’re quite Agnes. On the inside.” Earlier in the episode, Billy had said that his head was “noisy,” referring to his developing psychic abilities. Tommy asks if his mom is okay and Agnes reassures him, although she then tells the camera that she can’t tell a kid that his mom is “cuckoo for coco puffs.”

Later in the episode, Agnes brings Wanda to her house. Wanda sees half-eaten sandwiches and a children’s show on the TV, but the twins are nowhere to be seen. Agnes tells her they’re probably playing in the basement, and when Wanda goes to explore, she learns that the basement is actually some kind of magical lair, resembling a stone dungeon. Agnes isrevealed to be the witch Agatha Harkness, and behind many things in Westview that Wanda herself had not caused. Billy and Tommy are still unseen by the end of the episode.

So Why Might The Twins Not Make It Out?

In the comics, Wanda, with the help of Agatha’s magic, created the twins out of magical energy since she could not have biological children with the synthezoid Vision. It turns out the magic the twins were made out of was fragments of the soul of Mephisto, a devil-like villain in the Marvel comics. Mephisto ends up “unmaking” Billy and Tommy to reabsorb the pieces of his soul used to make them. Agatha Harkness wipes Wanda’s memory of the twins in order to save her the pain of losing them.

Mephisto has yet to make an appearanceinWandaVision, although there have been many theories that he will be revealed as a major villain by the end of the show. It’s been confirmed in the show thatWanda cannot create things, only transform them, so the twins have to have been created from something. That something could be magical energy or soul fragments. It is possible that either Agatha Harkness or a yet-to-be-revealed Mephisto will “unmake” the twins, similar to what happened in the comics. Agatha’s concern when Billy says she’s quiet on the inside could mean she’s alarmed that he has developed powers, and she may want to get rid of the twins. It’s also possible whatever magic they’re made of cannot withstand leaving the hex, and so they will not make it out of the series.

But Could There Be A Future For Billy and Tommy In The MCU?

It is revealed in the comics that Mephisto was not completely successful in reabsorbing the soul fragments that had been Billy and Tommy. The twins are reincarnated into two separate human families, still identical even though they have different human parents. They also retain their superpowers. Both Billy and Tommy become part of the superhero team known as the Young Avengers, discovering the truth about their existence. Tommy has superspeed and goes by “Speed,” and Billy, who has reality manipulation and psychic powers that resemble Scarlet Witch, goes by “Wiccan.”

Some of the other Young Avengershave been or are being introduced into the MCU. Scott Lang’s daughter, Cassie Lang, who has been seen in the movies, is the hero “Stature.” Another member of the team, Kate Bishop, will have a starring roleon theHawkeyeTV series. America Chavez or “Miss America” has been cast forDoctor Strange and The Multiverse of Madness, whichWandaVisionis confirmed to be setting up, and there are rumors of Eli Bradley or “Patriot” being introduced inThe Falcon and The Winter Soldier. With so many members of the team joining the MCU, it would make a lot of sense for Billy and Tommy to survive pastWandaVision. The twins have shown that they can age themselves up, so they could become teenagers and can join the team. It’s also possible they will be “unmade” and then brought back in a way that makes it possible for them to join the Young Avengers in a timely fashion.

With only two more episodes left to go, it won’t be long beforeWandaVisionaudiences get at least some answers as to the fate of Billy and Tommy. Hopefully, the characters can carry forward in some way, especially since they areboth LGBTQ heroes in the comics. AsWandaVisionhas proven so far, its likely many twists and turns lie ahead.
