TikTokstar Andrew Tate is no stranger to controversy, but it appears that this time he’s done something that the site has found worthy of a permanent ban. In fact, TikTok’s latest action continues a trend that started with similarsites like Facebook and Instagram.

Tate, who first made his name as a kick boxer and then reality television show contestant has found a foothold and a way to go viral on several social media sites, but it appears that those same sites are now cracking down and won’t be hosting his content anymore. Earlier this week,TikTokissued a statement to the Washington Post making it clear that Tate had been banned permanently for what it said were breaking rules that involved not attacking other people or “dehumanizing” either an individual or a group. However, what content specifically led to the ban was not immediately clear.

TikTok went on to say that not only would Andrew Tate’s videos be deleted from his channel, but the site is also going to be cracking down any videos that other users might post that would involve him. While Tate is one of thebiggest streamers on TikTokamassing more than 13 billion views since he first joined the platform, it’s apparent that the site is cracking down. In a statement to The Independent, the site said that “Misogyny is a hateful ideology that is not tolerated.” While talking about the measures the site was taking to rid itself of Andrew Tate content, it also welcomed the fact that other sites were doing the same.

It’s important to note that the service is taking this action even as some in the United States government are trying toshut down TikTok entirely. While the removal of people like Andrew Tate are obviously not a direct reaction to those who are wanting to take the platform offline, the company is well aware of its public perception as well as the perception people have of the content it does or doesn’t allow to continue to be posted.

Social media personalities coming under fire for their political views is nothing new such as YouTube streamerDream coming under firefor his political views. However, it’s clear that TikTok, Facebook and Instagram all found what Andrew Tate was posting more than just a harmless opinion.

Tate is a self-described sexist but he’s also been dubbed a “dangerous misogynist” by quite a few of his critics. Now the content creator won’t be able to useTikTokin order to get his voice out to the public.
