Deathverse: Let It Dieis a thrillingand enticing survival meetsbattle royale multiplayer game. Players take on the role of a customizable contestant in Death Jamboree, a dystopian game show where 16 people must battle to become the ‘One Last Star." Make no mistake about it,Deathverse: Let It Dieis an absolute blast to play, especially once players get to grips with the unique core gameplay loop. There’s so much to enjoy about this game; however, that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for improvement.

Fans of battle royale and survival games will likely feel quite at home here inDeathverse: Let It Die. From item and ability pickups to the shrinking play area to the tense nature of the moment-to-moment combat, this game offers a lot of nuance and depth. Even with the game’s overall enjoyment, there are some much-needed improvements to make this game a real contender in the genre for years to come.

5Release The Game On More Platforms

Currently,Deathverse: Let It Dieisonly available on PlayStation 4and 5, and PC. While it’s great that the game isn’t PC-exclusive and is at least available on PlayStation consoles, it’s confusing why it’s not also available on Xbox and Nintendo Switch. Online multiplayer games can live or die (pun very much intended) by the number of players logging in to play.

This game is already a pretty niche experience that throttlesthe line between battle royaleand survival. Many people tire of battle royale and survival-type games so having this game be made available on the other consoles would be incredibly beneficial. As long as crossplay and cross-progression are a part of the fold thenDeathverse: Let It Diecould thrive for quite some time in an already saturated market.

4Fine-Tune And Clean Up The Wonky Crafting System

Easily one of the most confusing and cumbersome parts ofDeathverse: Let It Dieis the crafting system. This crafting system isn’t a part of the moment-to-moment gameplay of a match but is instead something players can (optionally) take part in from the menu lobby area of the game. Crafting in this game comes down to creating new weapons, new weapon variants, and cosmetic upgrades for both the player avatar and the robot/drone companion.

The crafting concept in this game is actually pretty extensive but is bogged down by countless supplies and materials that can be found in matches or exchanged through myriad colorful tickets. The ticket exchange system feels unwieldy and offputting, especially because some materials can also be purchased with gold coins. Essentially, there is just too much going on behind the scenes when it comes to the crafting system. A full-on overhaul or refinement of the system could make it more digestible overall.

3More Players And Game Mode Diversity

The game matches inDeathverse: Let It Diecome in two basic forms: Ranked matches and Exhibition (unranked) matches. These two main modes offer the bulk of the gameplay in this experience. Most players will (and should) start with the Exhibition matches since, for all intents and purposes, it’s the standard public match. Learning to battle other players in the melee-focused combat, traversing the numerous stages, battling the Cryptid monsters, and collecting items will be best grasped in this unranked mode.

The ranked mode, of course, will be more challenging as the stakes are higher. Both matches have AI(and sometimes player-controlled) hunters as well, but more on that in a later point. Apart from a separate training and tutorial mode, there aren’t any other gameplay modes to take part in. While the main battle royale/survival mode is an absolute blast, a bit more game mode diversity and variety could enhance the overall package in the long run.

2Better Melee Weapon Variety

One of the core components of this game is its focus on melee combat. Eschewing traditional guns or weaponsfound in many other battle royale-type games,Deathverse: Let It Diewants players to get up and personal during each Death Jamboree game show match. The default weapon is a large axe-like cleaver that is balanced, responsive, and punishing when used correctly (after some good practice). In addition to this default melee weapon, players can also swap to use a katana, a hammer, robot arms, and even massive sawblades.

While each of these weapons has its own strengths, weaknesses, and secondary abilities, it’s hard not to wonder why there isn’t more melee weapon variety overall. Each main weapon can be leveled up, both during a match dynamically and as a long-term progression, but this takes quite some time and the rewards aren’t always immediately felt. If the game continues to gain traction with new players, here’s hoping the devs add in more weapon variety. Also, on a side note, the game needs way more weapon skins than it currently has.

1Refine The Dynamic Hunter System

Apart from the cumbersome crafting system,Deathverse: Let It Diealso features another gameplay system that isn’t explained well at all and can lead to confusing or untimely deaths during a match. This system is known as the Hunter system. On paper, each match has a dynamic Hunter that randomly and dynamically appears at a certain point. This AI-controller hunter (of which there are several, seemingly) will stalk, hunt, and kill players that aren’t aware. However, this really isn’t told to the player in any meaningful way.

Adding to the confusion isa Hunter variant that players can seemingly controlif certain parameters are met. When a player takes control of this specific hunter, they can quickly send other players to their doom without much notice. The Hunter system is a good idea in concept since it adds to the dynamic feel of this game; however, it needs to be more streamlined and better communicated to players.
