Recently, Rocksteady Studios released a new look at the upcoming video gameSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leagueduring Sony’s first 2023 State of Play. The footage in question focused on The Flash as the principal antagonist as the titular characters tried to rescue longtime Superman nemesis Lex Luthor from another longtime Superman nemesis, Brainiac. Oddly enough, theSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguecharacter seemed to have a lot in common with Heimdall inGod of War Ragnarok.
WhileGod of War Rangarok’s Heimdall is somewhat different from the Norse mythologyversion, the character does have several personality quirks that seem to be in line with what was written in the various Eddas. In the game, he serves as a secondary antagonist, forms a quick hostile relationship with Kratos' son Atreus, was utterly devoted to Odin, and was impossible to hit due to his abilities. Likewise, The Flash features several similar characteristics when it comes to his abilities, personality, and loyalty to his master that seem to give him a similar role in the upcoming game.

Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice Leaguewas originally revealedin 2020 with a simple yet compelling premise. Metropolis and the Justice League have been taken over by DC antagonist Brainiac, and Amanda Waller has sent in Task Force X, also known as The Suicide Squad, to deal with the situation. In the initial trailer, Superman appeared to be the biggest threat that the team would have to deal with. As time went on, additional members of the Justice League would be added to this roster including Batman, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, and The Flash, with the latter character being the primary focus of the game’s marketing.
The Flash was originally revealed in the2021Suicide Squad Kill The Justice Leaguegameplay footagewhere Amanda Waller demanded that the team kill him. The actual gameplay and The Flash himself were a bit sparse in this trailer, but even with this earlier footage, it was clear that the character would fill a particular role. In it, The Flash was quippy, impossible to hit, and took every opportunity to annoy the members of The Suicide Squad and remind them that this was the case. In addition, it was clear that the character viewed himself as the good guy in this scenario despite being controlled by Brainiac.
During February’s 2023State of Play the footage forSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, The Flash appeared once again as the featured antagonist. Throughout the footage, the character comes off as extremely arrogant and more than a little obnoxious. He constantly belittles the members of the Suicide Squad as he knows he cannot be hit or stopped by any of them. When he is finally stopped, it comes as a complete shock to the character who initially can’t process what is happening. Oddly enough, he is stopped by a Greek God of War and shares several similarities to another character who was also defeated by a Greek God of War.

Heimdall’s Role and Personality In God of War Ragnarok
As mentioned above, Heimdall is a secondary antagonist inGod of War Ragnarok. The character possessed many abilities which included but were not limited to intuition, unparalleled vision, and the ability to read minds. The combination of all of these abilities made the character virtually impossible to hit, and he continuously antagonized Atreus in their first meeting. This eventually resulted in an extremely one-sided fight, where Heimdall poked fun at Kratos' son and mocked him for being unable to hit him as he continued to smack the protagonist around. This in turn led Kratos to forge theDraupnir spear inGod of War Ragnarokwith the idea being that the weapon would cause the character sensory overload and allow him to be hit.
Later on, Kratos fightsHeimdall in one ofGod of War Ragnarok’s more memorable boss fights. Like The Flash inSuicide Squad Kill The Justice League, the character seems confident in his own superiority, inability to be hit, and the righteousness of his cause early on in the fight. As the battle continues the character is shocked to discover that he can in fact be hit when Kratos uses the Draupnir spear in a particular way. As the battle goes on, the character’s confidence gradually erodes away to desperation which eventually slips into outright fury. While Kratos tries not to kill the character, he is ultimately forced to as Heimdall refuses to stay down. Like The Flash, Heimdall says something to Kratos that disturbs him and causes him to question his current path.
How The Flash Feels Like Heimdall
Ultimately, it’s too soon to say how the story of The Flash will go in the upcoming DC video game, but the character does come off as the game’s version of Heimdall. Like theGod of War Ragnarokcharacter, he is arrogant and cocky which is derived from his inability to be hit. He constantly dances around and provokes the protagonists up until a character of Greek descent literally stops him in his tracks. Currently, it is impossible to say if the character will meet the same fate as the Norse God, but given the game’s title it is very possible. The inclusion ofThe Flash antagonist Captain Boomerang inSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leagueoffers the chance to explore their rivalry, but fans will have to wait to see if it results in a character fatality. For the time being, however, the iconic DC Speedster does feel a lot like Heimdall inGod of War Ragnarok.
