Star Wars: Andorshowrunner Tony Gilroy has confirmed that the critically-acclaimed series will head to the moon of Yavin 4 in its second season. While season 1 has already been wowing audiences with its surprisingly nuanced take on the Galactic Empire and the fledgling Rebel Alliance, it looks as though season 2 will jump ahead a bit and return to a setting long-timeStar Warsdevotees will find quite familiar.
Gilroy spoke about whatStar Warsfans can expect from the upcoming season, and talk eventually shifted over to the forest moon filled with impressive ruins that fans of all ages will remember from various points in the franchise’s history. This reveal came during a recent interview while he was busy praising newcomer Tom Bissell, who will be joiningAndor’s writing team for season 2. But unlike Gilroy, who isn’t much of aStar Warsfan himself, it looks like Bissell has his own personal connection to the beloved galaxy far, far away.

“Tom Bissell is really cool and really, really interesting, versatile, really good writer,” Gilroy gushed while speaking withCollider. “But also a very, very, very bigStar Warsfan, which we really wanted to make sure we had another pro because we’re going intoRogue [One], and we’re going to Yavin, and then we’re going into places where we eventually need to really weave our way back to the source. So Tom came in, and he’s been great. So he’s got some episodes too.” WhileAndorhas been avoiding fanservice and Easter eggsfor the most part, apparently some callbacks are just too big to avoid.
Yavin 4 was famously the location seen inStar Wars: Episode IV: A New Hopewhere the Rebels launched their daring and desperate attack against the Empire’s Death Star battle station. While the Empire had ultimately discovered the location of the Rebel base on Yavin 4 thanks to a tracking beacon placed on the Millennium Falcon, it had served as a major central headquarters for the Rebellion for some time up until that point. Much ofRogue One: A Star Wars Storyeven took place there.
As the base of operations for the nowmuch more conflicted Rebel Alliance, it was only a matter of time until Yavin showed up onAndor. But given the time frame, it’s also an opportunity for fans to discover the origins of that particular Rebel base. When fans saw the location again inRogue One, it had already been established as an important hub for the Alliance, but perhapsAndorwill delve into why it was chosen in the first place.
However the story goes, odds are it will be in ways totally unexpected, if the rest of the series so far is any indication.Andoris considered the best show on televisionto many due to going above and beyond what fans have come to expect from aStar Warsseries. So a new perspective on such an iconic planet is sure to heighten the experience.
