SinceSifuhas released, many have fallen in love with the difficult-but-rewarding game. Wildly skilled players have managed tocompleteSifuwithout being hit, while others have created mods that let them take control of Shaggy and Daredevil. However, while many have been having a blast with the game’s unique melee combat, others have been struggling to connect with the title.

Sifuis brutally difficult, and its second stage essentially serves as a barrier that forces players to master its combat. There is no easy option for those that want to beat down enemies quickly to see the game’s story, and this is something that has led to a bit of controversy around the indie title. However, while there is a good case to be made about accessibility and the game being too hard, many of those that have beatenSifuare upset to see an easy mode added at all. As such, it is important for Sloclap to find a way to keep both sides of its player base satisfied, and Trophies may be the answer.

Why Sifu’s Easy Mode Disabling Trophies is The Right Move

Sifu’s trophy datahas highlighted how challenging the game is, as very few gamers have completed the second stage - and even fewer have beaten the game. This can be seen as good evidence that the game should be more accessible, though it also shows why the game’s difficulty is a positive. For those that have beatenSifuon its default difficulty and unlocked its harder Trophies, they likely feel a major sense of accomplishment. As such, it would be a bad idea to take that feeling away.

Players that unlock the PlayStation Trophy forbeatingSifuat age 25 have truly mastered the game, and the extremely rare Trophy they have gotten for that accomplishment reflects that. However, if an easy mode is added that still allows Trophies to be unlocked, that sense of accomplishment could quickly fade. The age 25 Trophy and all the others in the game will quickly become less rare, with players having no easy way to prove which difficulty they unlocked their Trophies on.

Accessibility in video games is important, and it is a reason thatdifficulty modes for FromSoftware gamesare constantly debated. There are great cases to be made for both sides, butSifuplayers need to accept that a difficulty option is coming. For better or worse, Sloclap has confirmed that harder and easier settings are on the way, and nothing can be done to change that. However, the developer can still make the decision to limit Trophies to the default and harderSifudifficulty levels.

This way, lesser-skilled players that simply want to play through and enjoy all ofSifu’s stagescan do so. More skilled players, on the other hand, will be able to use Trophies to show that they beat the game as it was meant to be played.Sifu’s difficulty is part of what makes it special, so taking that away is guaranteed to bother as many players as it pleases. However, Sloclap disabling Trophies in easy mode would be a decent compromise.

It would be a shame to seeSifu’s Platinum Trophy lose value, and for players to have an easier path to said Platinum. While difficulty levels could absolutely turn out to be a good addition, Trophies unlocking in easy mode is simply unfair to those that spent hours grinding to get the game’s Age 25 Trophy. With more and moreeasy Trophy gamesbeing released, it is refreshing to have a challenging Platinum to strive for, andSifu’s easy mode should not take that away.
