Summary

An insider claims that twoFriday the 13thvideo games in different genres are currently in development. While it’s best to take this information with a healthy dose of salt, the potential of several upcoming games starring the franchise’s mascot, Jason Voorhees, could excite manyFriday the 13thfans, especially those who have wanted the hockey mask-wearing maniac to make the jump to the interactive medium more often.

Friday the 13this easily one ofthe most influential horror movie franchises of all time, and one of the oldest, too. It’s strange, then, that there haven’t been many attempts to bring the series into the realm of video games. To date, there have only been 4 notableFriday the 13thvideo games over the last 40 or so years. The first one, simply titledFriday the 13th: The Computer Game, was released on 8-bit home computers in 1986. Meanwhile, in 1989, Atlus — ofShin Megami TenseiandPersonafame — released a critically panned title based on the franchise for the NES, in collaboration with the publisher LJN. Several decades later, IllFonic launched an asymmetrical horror game dubbedFriday the 13th: The Gamein 2017. This was then followed up by Blue Wizard Digital’sFriday the 13th: Killer Puzzle, which was released in 2018.

As one can clearly tell, Jason Voorhees hasn’t exactly had a strong track record in the video game medium. However, the serial killer may soon have more opportunities to turn his fortunes around as, according to a recent tweet from the insider CineStealth, there are apparently twoFriday the 13thgames in development. One of the projects is reportedly multiplayer, while the other “features more linear gameplay.” While CineStealth doesn’t outright say that the latter of the two titles is a single-player game, their wording does seem to suggest this. If so, then a linearFriday the 13thexperience in the vein ofgames likeResident EvilorAlien: Isolationcould be interesting.

More Friday the 13th Games Could Be On the Way

In addition to the claim they made about these rumoredFriday the 13thgames, CineStealth also alleges thatJason Voorhees is coming toFortnitenext season. They state, however, that the collaboration won’t feature any reference to theFriday the 13thbrand. If true, this could possibly be because of licensing issues surrounding the IP. Either way, this rumor does seem to corroborate recent speculation that the franchise could cross over withFortnitesoon, courtesy of an officialFriday the 13thTwitter account called Jason Universe following Epic Games' hit battle royale on the social media site.

For the record, these rumors don’t seem too far-fetched, as Horror Inc. — the co-owners of theFriday the 13thIP — announced in May 2024 that it would begin a multiplatform expansion ofthe classic slasher franchise, which will involve video games in some way. It looks likeFriday the 13thfans may find out sooner or later what this could entail.
