Before Akira Toriyama decided to continue theDragon Ballfranchise himself with well-receivedDragon Ball Super, a non-canonDragon Ball Zsequel anime was produced calledDragon Ball GT.Dragon Ball GTwas met with mixed reception from fans, as it made the controversial decision to revert Goku back into a child. WhileDragon Ball GT’s Kid Goku has never been the franchise’s most popular character, it seems as though he is going to enjoy a comeback as DLC forDragon Ball FighterZ.

According to a now-deleted Japanese blog post,Dragon Ball GT’s Kid Goku will be revealed forDragon Ball FighterZthrough the next issue of V-Jump magazine. This has yet to be confirmed or denied by Bandai Namco Entertainment, but V-Jump leaks in the past have been a reliable way for people to get the early scoop onDragon Ball FighterZ’sroster and DLC characters.

What may be confusing about the decision to add theDragon Ball GTversion of Goku toDragon Ball FighterZis that a much more popular version of Kid Goku exists and has yet to be added to the game. That version would be the original Goku seen in theDragon Ballanime and manga, who traveled with Bulma, Oolong,Yamcha, and others in search of the wish-granting seven Dragon Balls. Why Bandai Namco would overlook this version of Kid Goku for theDragon Ball GTtake on the character is unclear at this point.

Assuming the rumor is true and the next issue of V-Jump is in fact confirmingDragon Ball GTKid Goku for theDragon Ball FighterZroster, it’s worth pointing out that this would technically be theeighthversion of Goku in the game. There’sbase form Goku, Goku Black, Super Saiyan Goku, SSGSS Goku, and three fusion characters that are partly made up of Goku in the form of Gogeta, Vegito, and Zamasu.

Since Goku is the star of theDragon Ballfranchise, it’s not exactly surprising that he is so heavily represented inDragon Ball FighterZ. Even so, some fans may be anxious to see otherDragon Ballcharacters added to the roster instead. IfDragon Ball FighterZis able to maintain its popularity moving forward, then perhaps those missing characters will be added at some point.

Dragon Ball FighterZis out now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
