[UPDATE:Borderlands 3 finally announced (with trailer).]

DespiteGearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford teasingBorderlands 3and rumors that the game would be announced at The Game Awards 2018, the event came and went with no mention of the highly-anticipated sequel. However, YouTube channel The Know, citing an anonymous and supposedly “credible” source close to the project, has potentially revealed some of the first details about what the game will have to offer.

According to The Know,Borderlands 3will have four character classes to choose from, like past games in the series. The first class is the Soldier class, which will apparently be able to summon a Titan mech from the sky, not unlikeTitanfall. The Soldier’s Titan can then be upgraded later on to feature a mounted turret that can be used by a co-op partner. The second leaked character is the Siren, which will be melee-focused, though has oddly enough been compared to Brick, the Berserker class character from the originalBorderlandsgame.

The third class supposedly leaked forBorderlands 3is the Assassin class, which has been compared to Zero fromBorderlands 2. The Assassin class character will reportedly be able to create a decoy to draw enemy fire, but no other abilities or skills have been revealed at this time.

The fourth class is the Beast Master class, which will let players choose between three different pets, all of which have their own special abilities. The Beast Master class is said to be the only character class still in Alpha testing, as there are some issues that still need ironed out in regards to the pet AI.

According to The Know’s source,Borderlands 3will be announced in the first half of 2019, though the source was unable to provide aconcrete release datefor the long-gestating shooter. They did reveal a few other details, though. Apparently the game will be about hunting down multiple vaults, and every player will get their own personalized room that they can decorate with their favorite loot after they finish the story.

While this may all sound very appealing, we must stress that fans should take this information with a massive grain of salt. Even though The Know claims to have a “credible source,” it’s possible that the source is misleading them or has some wrong information themselves. All we know for sure is thata newBorderlandsgame is in developmentin some capacity, so it’s just a matter of when Gearbox is finally read to confirm its existence.
