Red Dead Redemption 2remains in the unfortunate in-between time where it’s available on current generation consoles but has yet to even be announced for PC. With Rockstar’s previous game,Grand Theft Auto 5, PC gamers ultimately waited over a year and a half before it launched on the platform. If similarly scheduled,Red Dead Redemption 2on PC could be near a year away from release. An announcement could help assuage frustrated fans, though one is likely far off given Rockstar is skipping E3 2019.
Understanding the state ofRed Dead Redemption 2,this quotation from publisher parent companyTake-Two CEO Strauss Zelnickis likely going to sting. Speaking to investors, Zelnick responded to a comment regarding aRed Dead Redemption 2PC port by confirming, “There is no downside to releasing the game on PC.” ARed Dead Redemption 2PC port remains unofficial.

On one hand, Zelnick’s comment confirms the inevitabilityRed Dead Redemption 2’s PC port. TheRed Dead Redemptionfranchise may not be as successful overall asGrand Theft Auto, but anything Rockstar puts out anymore is hugely profitable for all parties involved. On the other hand, the comment is likely to make the wait for PC gamers all the more torturous.
Even with Zelnick’s vote of confidence inRed Dead Redemption 2’s likely future on PC, fans will likely remain nervous until it has been made official. The legacy of the originalRed Dead Redemption, which wasnever ported to PC, remains. And trust between fans and Take-Two/Rockstar continues to be a rebuilding process as a result.
Coincidentally,Grand Theft Auto 5’s PC portwas announced during E3 2014, ultimately to be released in April 2015 after some delays. Rockstar won’t be attending E3 2019, so aRed Dead Redemption 2PC announcement isn’t likely. What that means for the PC port’s future, whether it’ll arrive in early 2020 or in 2020 at all, only Rockstar knows. One thing’s for sure though, it seems: both PC gamers and Take-Two’s CEO are ready for the port any time now.
Red Dead Redemption 2is available now on PS4 and Xbox One.
