Rage 2is set to launch early next week, and like most modern video game releases, it will have multiple editions for fans to choose from. Besides the base game ofRage 2, there will also be a Deluxe Edition as well as a Collector’s Edition, and as it turns out, those versions of the game will be the only way fans can get the BFG 9000 at launch.

It was revealed last year that the BFG 9000 weapon fromDoomwould be inRage 2, where it was confirmed to be part of theRage 2Deluxe and Collector’s Editions. However, it seems some fans were under the impression that the BFG 9000 would still be obtainable in the base game ofRage 2, though it’s now been clarified that isn’t the case.

In a Reddit thread about theRage 2BFG 9000, a Bethesda Community Manager confirmed that the weapon will only be available in the Deluxe and Collector’s Editions at launch. While this leaves the door open for the BFG 9000 to come to theRage 2base game at some point down the road, it has still upset some fans of the game, who voiced their displeasure on the Reddit thread.

Reddit user PatientZeroo said, " $20 extra bucks for a weapon? Welp there goes my purchase. That’s just pure greed. Very disappointing but not surprising considering who the publisher is." Reddit user the_catacombs generally concurred with this assessment, saying, “This is a boneheaded decision.”

While it seems as though many people are upset that theRage 2BFG 9000 will only be available in the base game, others have spoken in defense of the game. They point out that the BFG 9000 is a “bonus” weapon from theDoomuniverse, and that there is other content coming in the Deluxe and Collector’s Editions besides the gun. For example, those that get the Collector’s Edition will also get theRise of the Ghostsexpansion as well as theWasteland Wizard cheat codes.

Bethesda has had to deal with a lot of PR issues lately, largely thanks to its mishandling ofFallout 76, so it will be interesting to see if it does anything to try to appease those upset by theRage 2BFG 9000 situation. It’s doubtful since we’re so close to launch, but at least it seems like there are plans to add the BFG 9000 to theRage 2base gameat some point in the future.

Rage 2will launch on May 14 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
