Since its debut, thePS5’s design has been something of a point of contention among fans. While some have praised the futuristic design, others have compared the PS5 to routers and other types of technology. It’s certainly a big system, in fact, thePS5 is the largest modern consoleto ever exist. So large, even, that it’s inspired an incredible new render of the system as a cyberpunk building.

Artist dead disk drive took to Twitter to show off their creation, which looks like something one might find inBlade Runner,Cyberpunk 2077,or one of the other cyberpunk properties that have dominated the conversation lately. The PS5 works surprisingly well as a skyscraper too, with the console almost adopting a sort of circuit board look that’s a good fit for what dead disk drive has created.

PlayStation fans have done excellent work with the new console, letting their imaginations run wild to turn the system into new devices entirely, or simply imagining it in outlandish scenarios. Dead disk drive’s artwork is one of the best examples of those outlandish scenarios, but that doesn’t make what other artists have created any less impressive. All around, it’s incredible to see what the community is capable of.

One of the greatest emerging examples of the community’s creative drive is the bevy of customPS5 designsthat have flooded the internet since the console’s debut. Custom side plates for the console have become common, as they’re easy to remove from the system. This allows users to add their own spin to the plates with ease, either creating their own custom artwork to put on the plates or swap them out with third-party designs.

What’s somewhat ironic is that the drive for custom consoles comes, in part, from howbizarre the PS5 lookscompared to past systems. Sony wanted the PS5 to have a futuristic design, and while it certainly achieved that goal, it hasn’t won over every fan. Simply put, there are those that don’t appreciate how the console dominates a room, especially those that have rustic-looking furniture. If the past few console generations are any indication, there’s a good chance fans will get a PS5 slim at some point, but it’s difficult to say right now.

Regardless, it’s great to see more fan artwork pour out for the system, especially that takes such an interesting idea and runs with it. The PS5 building design is interesting, and certainly a departure from what one would normally expect.
