In the days sincePokemon GOfans first caught word that the monster-catching mobile game would introduce Generation 3 Pokemon to the mix as part of the title’s upcoming Halloween event, excitement has been at an all-time high. Niantic kicked things up a notch when it announced that the new pocked-sized creatures would arrive toPokemon GObeginning tomorrow, October 20, in a “gradual” release of the Hoenn region-residing Pokemon.
But which Generation 3 Pokemon will players be able to get their hands on in time for Halloween? We have a quick run-down below.
Shuppet
Shuppet (#353) is aGhost-type Pokemonthat evolves into Banette (shown below) starting at level 37. Designed as a puppet (hence the name) covered by a gray cloth, Shuppet also has a long, pointed horn at the top of its head. This protrusion accumulates the energy of humans' negative emotions (including anger, envy, and jealousy), off of which Shuppet feeds.
Shuppet is a nocturnal Pokemon, and pops up in cities and urban areas within thePokemonfranchise lore. Players would do well to hit up the most bustling areas of their towns during the evening hours, as Shuppet may spawn there based on its in-series characterization.
Banette
Like the Pokemon it evolves from, Banette (#354) is a Ghost type that many consider one ofthe most disturbing Pokemon ever. A creepy marionette doll-styled Pokemon, this creature is “possessed with pure hatred,” has a golden zipper for a mouth, and charges up its attacks by poking itself with needles as if it were a voodoo doll. MultiplePokedexentries detail that Banette was once a plush doll whose owner threw it away; the grudge it amassed after this incident drove it to become a Pokemon.
Duskull
Duskull (#356) is another Ghost-type Pokemon, and is styled after the Grim Reaper. It wears a black robe and a mask that resembles a skull, from which its single pink eye floats between two eye sockets. Primarily a nocturnal Pokemon like Shupett, Duskull lives in thick forests, has a tendency to spirit children away, can become invisible to sneak up on prey, and apparently enjoys the sound of children crying.
Dusclops
As with the Shupett-Banette relationship, Duskull is able to evolve intoDusclops(#357) at level 37. Dusclops is markedly less spooky-looking than Duskull, depicted as a mummy-like body with short, stubby legs. It keeps the single eye from its base Pokemon and grows three tooth-like prongs that stick out just below it. Dusclops uses its two large hands to hypnotize its opponents, subsequently forcing them to do as it wishes.
Sableye
Finally, players will have the chance to catch Sableye (#302), a dual-type Dark/Ghost Pokemon that has incredibly sharp teeth and claws and a pair of blue gemstone-like eyes. Sableye can see well in low light and in the dark thanks to its stone eyes, and its body gems are results of its eating habits, which mainly include munching on rocks and raw gemstones.
It usually targets Carbrink (#703), a dual-type Rock/Fairy Pokémon, as its prey. Feared by many, as it has the ability to snatch a person’s soul with just a single look, Sableye lives in caves and is rarely seen, according to thePokemonseries lore.
In conjunction with the new Generation 3 Pokemon, thePokemon GOHalloween event will double candy rewards that players can rake in for capturing, hatching, and transferring Pokemon. Players will also be able to catch a festive new version of Pikachu that sports an undeniably cute hat. Images of thewitch hat Pikachuleaked ahead of the official announcement, but fans seem excited nonetheless.
With all the new additions and in-game improvements like theEX Raid systemthat offers exclusive invite-only to activePokemon GOplayers, it seems that Niantic is truly turning things around for the title that was embroiled in lawsuit controversies and a quite bit of technical chaos this summer.
