This Saturday,Pokemon GOwill be hosting itsMay Community Day,which features the fire-type starter, Charmander. Per usual, this event will increase the spawns of the featured Pokemon, will likely increase spawns of its shiny version, and for those who manage to fully evolve Charmander during the event’s time, the fully-evolved Pokemon learns an exclusive move.

It’s worth mentioning that some fans of the game were unhappy last month whenPokemon GOrevealed Ampharos’ special move to be Dragon Pulse, but Niantic doesn’t seem to be repeating this mistake. Now, Charizard’s exclusive move has been revealed to be Blast Burn, a two-bar, 100-damage move that elevates Charizard’s role inPokemon GO’smetagame.

Compared to previous Community Days, Blast Burn isn’t as viable as Venusaur’s Frenzy Plant, but it offers a solid alternative to Overheat and Fire Blast in the Fire-type department. This move, notably, doesn’t make Charizard competitive with a Moltres or Entei, but it doesn’t elevate Charizard over its main competitor, Flareon. This means that players can expect to see an increase in Charizards with Blast Burn in the popular mobile augmented reality game.

Of course, the idea of having a black Charizard with Blast Burn may be enough to encourage non-competitive players to partake in the event, and for those who need a little help, here’s a guide onhow to prepare for Charmander’s Community Day.Players may want to stock up on Pokeballs, lure modules, Pinap berries, and possibly partake of any special items in the game’s shop.

For those players looking beyond Charmander’s special day, expect June’s featured Pokemon to be revealed within a day or two after May’s Community Day. Moreover, it’s worth noting thatJune and July’s Community Day event dateshave been revealed, so players can plan ahead if need be. For those who want that shiny Charizard and/or exclusive move, Charmander’s Community Day event begins this Saturday, May 19, 11 am PST, 2 pm EST.
