The sale will run alongsidethis week’s PlayStation State of Playthat is planned for tomorrow, April 29. After skipping last month’s presentation, this event will have to cover more ground. As for what the State of Play will show off, there are a few details Sony made clear would make an appearance. Insomniac Games is releasing a new gameplay trailer forRatchet and Clank: Rift Apartduring the show that will reveal more of what the game has to offer ahead of its June release date. The event will also highlight two unnamed upcoming indie games.
Audiences should be prepared for surprise announcements and updates to popular titles still in development. There haven’t been updates onGod of War RagnarokorHorizon Forbidden Westin some time, so the event could provide some much-anticipated insight on their progress. The last event was veryFinal Fantasyheavy, announcingFinal Fantasy 7 Remake Intergradeand presenting Yuffie gameplay. This time aroundFinal Fantasy 16may get a little more time to shine.
SinceSony is aggressively investing in first-party studios, audiences can be sure that AAA titles will receive the bulk of the attention. It was reported after a conference call with investors that the company will be putting most of its resources in its internal studios and third-party partnerships. Given the amount of success Sony has seen on PlayStation exclusive titles, it’s no wonder it sees them as a viable path forward, but this move has caused some to voice concern about the impact it will have on smaller studios.
A good amount of these third-party AAA titles can be found in the Golden Week Sale, which provides agoldenopportunity to check them out and see just whySonyis investing in them so heavily. But there are plenty of other great games that are marked down, including popular indie titles likeUndertale. With many priced at $20 or lower, it’s a great time to bulk up the gaming collection.
