Last month, the development team behindPlayerUnknown’s Battlegroundsgave PC fans of the popular battle royale game a chance to try outits forthcoming island mapby way of a testing period that only lasted several days. During that trial run, Bluehole Studio offered a placeholder title for the smaller 4x4 arena, giving it the code name “Savage”. Now, though, the company has given it an official name that will be used in the final version of the map.
As seen in the tweet below from the officialPlayerUnknown’s BattlegroundsTwitter account, Bluehole Studio has decided to dub the new island map “Sanhok,” which is a combination of words from Southeast Asia, the region that inspired the in-game area. According to a description of the name shared in a recent post on Steam, it combines the Thai word for “fun,” which is “สนุก” and the Filipino word for “chicken”, which is “manok”, which results in “Sanhok”.
Without a doubt, manyPlayerUnknown’s Battlegroundsfans are surely excited to know that they can now start practicing the pronunciation of Sanhok in preparation of the island map’s addition in a couple of months alongside the previously included Erangel andMiramar. Of course, what’s more thrilling is the fact that Bluehole Studio will be opening a new round of testing on Sanhok, and it will allow all players who own a copy ofPUBGon PC to give it a go from Thursday, May 10, 7:00 PM PDT until Monday, May 14, 4:00 AM PDT.
All things considered, it will be interesting to see if the impending introduction ofPlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds' Sanhok map will have any bearing on the ever-increasing popularity of its competition inFortniteBattle Royale. Fans have been clamoring for a new map in Epic Games' free-to-play portion of the sandbox survival title for a while, which has seen the studio alter various areas with such events as a recent meteor strike that changed Dusty Depot toDusty Divot, but the company has yet to offer an actual new map.PUBG, on the other hand, will soon have three maps from which to choose, which could swayFortniteplayers away from trying their hand at achieving a Victory Royale to chasing after a Chicken Dinner instead.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegroundsis available now for Android and iOS devices, PC, and Xbox One.
