Summary

InPalworld, the monsters are called Pals which seems like a simple enough name to remember. Players can catch them in Pal Spheres by weakening them first in battle. UnlikePokemon, players can directly attack Pals with weapons, or they can call in Pals for assistance. Players can carry five pals at one time, and the rest go back to a device known as the Palbox.

It’s a derivative system of the aforementionedPokemonseries but there is something unique inPalworldto help it stand out as an open-world game with survival and RPG mechanics. Partner Skills are unique abilities to a few select Pals in the game. They can range from weapon-like abilities to ways players can ride them.Palworldruns the gamut of skills, so let’s see what is in store.

Melpaca’s Saddle in Palworld

8Melpaca’s Saddle

Ride It Like A Horse

Melpacalooks a bit like a pink llama and is a Neutral-based Pal. Players can get a saddle for it and ride the Pal around to help with ground traversal. Saddles are one of the most common items players can build for their Pals as Melpaca is not the only ground mount by far.

It’s not the fastest but it will be the quickest to capture early on. One of the best things about ground mounts is being able to take down bosses while on their backs, shooting weapons like a bow and there are many types of them inPalworld.

Nitewing’s Saddle in Palworld

7Nitewing’s Saddle

Soar Above Palworld

Nitewingis another monster inPalworldbut this one can flyonce a saddle gets attached. This Pal will give players the ability to fly so that they can explore other islands. There are many uses for bird-type Pals besides traversal. For example, it’s easier to spot Pals from above as well as other objects like Lifmunk Effigies. In Palworld, there are small pedestals hidden throughout the land with little glowing green holograms on them which can then be used to upgrade capture abilities.

6Lifmunk’s Submachine Gun

The Ultimate Cute Combo

Lifmunk is more than a hologram inPalworldas its real counterpart is a grass-type Pal that looks like a squirrel version of Leafeon from the Pokemon series. Lifmunk’s Partner Skill item will turn the player’s head into a saddle.

Once activated in battle,Lifmunkwill jump on the player’s head and start firing a submachine gun for a limited time. This ability runs on a cooldown which is different from the previous two saddled Pals. The head mounting is a bit like the battle system inWorld of Final Fantasywhich is anotherPokemonclone.

5Tanzee’s Assault Rifle

This Monkey Has A Gun

Tanzeeis another Grass-type Pal that can wield a gun. Unlike Lifmunk, Tanzee operates independently of the player. He will pull out an assault rifle and start firing away at enemies for a few rounds before it is ready to cool off. The Partner Skill is good in a pinch especially when surrounded by a bunch of raiders at home base. However, sometimes the AI’s aiming for Tanzee can be a bit off which is to be expected in anEarly Access game.

4Foxparks’ Harness

Turn It Into A Flamethrower

Foxparksis a small Fire-based Pal that looks like a fox if the name wasn’t a punny giveaway. The partnership between Pal and the player fit this one is rather numerous but it only gets wildly following this example. The Partner Skill will allow players to pick up Foxparks and use it as a flamethrower in battle akin to that final scene inOnce Upon a Time in Hollywood.Palworldis full of inventive ways to turn Pals into weapons and Foxparksis easily near the top of the Partner Skills list.

3Jolthog’s Gloves

It’s Electric

Jolthogis an electrified hedgehog and a pretty small Pal overall. It’s one of the few Electric-type Pals that will be around the starting area and even then they are quite rare. Instead of wielding it like a gun, players will instead throw their Jolthog when the Partner Skill is activated.

A bomb will go off, affecting the area around it with a shocking dome. While it looks painful, Jolthog will be perfectly fine after the attack although it does need to cool down before trying the combo again. PerhapsSonic’s super forminspired the design and powers of this little Pal.

2Tocotoco’s Gloves

An Awkward Grenade Launcher

Tocotocohas an explosive Partner Skill too but it’s way different compared to Jolthog’s. This Neutral-type Pal can be picked up and then players can shoot eggs…out of its butt. This is a real element in Palworld’s gameplay and Tocotoco strangely looks okay with the whole thing.

The ability is odd, yes, but the explosiveness is quite useful. It’s about as weird as Birdo shooting eggs from its nose in theMarioseries. Imagine if players got to wield Birdo as a weapon in aMariogame likeMario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle.

1Pengullet’s Rocket Launcher

Kamikaze Penguins

Pengulletis a small penguin with two types of elements in the game. It is proficient in both water and ice powers. These elemental effects have nothing to do with this Partner Skill though as this is perhaps the strangest in the game.

Players will take out a cannon that looks a lot like theSuper Scope from the SNES era, put Pengullet inside, and then fire. The damage will be savage to the enemy but in turn, Pengullet will be depleted of its entire HP.
