Right now, Blizzard is running one of its bestOverwatchpromotions ever. All of the usual advantages of a non-limitedOverwatchfree trial are here. Players will have access to the full game, meaning they’ll be able to use all 32 heroes and 28 maps, including thenew Kanezaka Deathmatch map. Also, should they purchase the game, all of the progress they made during the free trial will transfer over. They just need to verify the game is purchased on their account.
As for what makes the promotional unique, the free-to-play period is longer than normal, spanning two full weeks. Specifically, the trial ends on January 4, the sametimeOverwatch’s 2020 Winter Wonderland event ends. Blizzard only usually runs freeOverwatchtrials for the duration of a weekend. The only exceptions to this areOverwatchanniversary events — where the game becomes free to play for a week — and the one time Blizzard made it free to play for a whole month in China, back in 2017.

The other unique aspect is the on-sale deal, which ends on January 4 for PC and January 9 for consoles. Until those dates,Overwatchis on sale for half off its usual price. The exact discount amount depends on what version ofOverwatchplayers are looking to buy and what gaming machine they’re looking to buy it on. That said, it’s important to know that Blizzard isn’t running a deal for theNintendo Switch version ofOverwatch, so “consoles,” in this instance, refers to the PS4 and the Xbox One.
On PC, the standard version ofOverwatchis 25% off, whileOverwatch: Legendary Editionis 50%. On consoles, only the legendary edition is on sale, and it is so for 67% off. Respectively then, PC’s standard costs $14.99 whileLegendarycosts $19.99, and the consoles’Legendarycost $19.79. As for the difference between standard andLegendary, it’s mainly just Hero skins. However, it offers a bonus for other Blizzard games as well, such asWorld of WarcraftandDiablo 3.
Again, this is probably the bestOverwatchpromotion Blizzardhas ever done for the game. Anyone that hasn’t ownedOverwatchbefore has two weeks to take it for a test drive and see if they like it. If they do, they don’t even have to pay full price. Anyone interested in getting the game as a gift for someone else can put that individual on to the two-week trial and then buy it for them for a steal.
Overwatchis available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
