Summary

BlizzCon 2023 has providedOverwatch 2players with a lot to look forward to, including an early look at the Damage character Venture. While it will be several months before Venture is fully playable, they look like they could be a game-changing addition forOverwatch 2.

TheOverwatch 2Deep Dive at BlizzCon 2023 provided fans with plenty of information on the hero shooter’s future. Battle Pass themes like Egyptian Mythology and a mirror universe were mentioned, as was the return ofHanamuravia the upcoming Clash game mode. Mauga’s origin story and gameplay trailer were provided alongside a limited time trial period for the hero, but Blizzard did not stop there, as it also teased the next two heroes. While Season 12’s Support is still very early in development, and currently only has the codename Space Ranger, Venture is further along.

Set to release in Season 10, Venture will be thefirst Damage hero since Sojourn. They are confirmed to be the first non-binary hero in the game and will wear a massive trench coat, with tattoos noticeable on their neck. Venture’s main weapon will be a drill that they use to launch disk-like projectiles at their foes, and though the character model for the hero is lacking a bit of polish, Blizzard still wanted to give fans an idea of how they will play once Season 10 arrives.

The brief gameplay snippet fromBlizzCon 2023sees Venture using this drill weapon, with the projectiles exploding after they travel a certain distance, though it is the other capabilities of the weapon that really stand out. Not only does it have a melee attack that seemingly launches Venture forward, but it allows them to burrow under the map and become invulnerable for a brief amount of time. They can then flank around enemies or attempt to escape back to their spawn area, which could prove very useful for regrouping. This ability also sees Venture deal some extra damage while launching themselves up into the air, ensuring that they have a lot of mobility.

BlizzCon 2023 also provided some concept art forOverwatch 2’s next Damage hero, which allows players to get some closer looks at Venture’s design. They wear a pair of yellow goggles atop their head, with a yellow shirt also present beneath their baggy coat - suggesting that yellow will be the color most associated with the hero. The faces in the art could suggest a bit about Venture’s personality, though this is purely speculation.

As for whenOverwatch 2’s Venturewill release, Season 10 is likely to drop sometime around May 2024. Hopefully players will get to try them a bit sooner, though, similar to Mauga’s trial period.
