Blackbeard is among the most mysterious characters inOne Piece. When he made his first appearance in the series, no one thought that the man with the missing teeth would one day become one of the Four Emperors of the Sea. His rise to the status of one of the four strongest pirates inOne Piecehas been nothing short of spectacular.
Despite having two very powerful devil fruits, Blackbeard has the tendency to stay away from fights that he thinks he cannot win. Blackbeard only makes a move when he believes he has enough power to finish the job. Blackbeard was not involved in any of the serious fights that took place in the Four Emperors Saga. However, as the manga entered the final saga, he finally made his move.

Going After Boa Hancock
Boa Hancock is a former Shichibukaiand the captain of the Kuja Pirates. She made a name for herself just after her first voyage, which forced the World Government to put a bounty of 80 million berries on her. In addition to giving her a high bounty, the World Government also offered her a position in the Shichibukai. While Hancock hated the organization, she had to protect Amazon Lily from the threat of Marines and other pirates, so she accepted the offer.
Hancock’s abilities as a fighter have been recognized by the likes of Sengoku and Blackbeard. After the system was abolished,Hancock’s bounty was increased to 1,659,000,000 berries. It didn’t take long for the Marines to attack Amazon Lily, but the Kuja Pirates resisted their advances. While the battle between these two parties was raging on, the Blackbeard pirates appeared and began attacking everyone. However, Boa Hancock proved that she was no pushover as she petrified numerous members of the Blackbeard pirates. Blackbeard was concerned with his crew’s shocking performance, so he decided to step forward and face the mighty Pirate Empress himself. With the help of his Yami Yami no Mi, Blackbeard was able to nullify the effects of Hancock’s Mero Mero no Mi. It didn’t take long for the Emperor to overwhelm Hancock. Needless to say, Hancock would have died if Rayleigh had not decided to intervene. Blackbeard decided to leave, but he refused to go back empty-handed, so he took Koby with him. Until now, the fans had never seen Blackbeard go out of his way to accomplish a task, which is why his actions in Amazon Lily were quite perplexing.

Hungry For Power
The Blackbeard Pirates' huntto acquire powerful Devil Fruits came to light after the time skip, but Blackbeard was never shown going to another location in person to get his hands on a Devil Fruit. This implies that Boa Hancock’s Devil Fruit is quite special. Her Devil Fruit has the ability to turn her opponents to stone, and it operates on any impure feelings that her opponents might bear toward her. While it has been stated that it only affects living beings, one of Hancock’s attacks was able to turn a Pacifista’s head to stone. So this devil fruit might actually be effective against both living and non-living beings.

The Celestial Dragons fedBoa Hancock the Mero Mero no Mi. They believed that the power would keep them entertained and would never fall into the wrong hands, as it was almost impossible for anyone to escape from Marijoa. They had never envisioned that Fisher Tiger would launch a raid on Marijoa and free the slaves. After escaping from Marijoa, Hancock and her sisters returned to Amazon Lily. The three sisters were the only ones who had devil fruit abilities, and after they saw Hancock’s ability to petrify others, they were dazzled. The three sisters disclosed that they had gained the powers after slaying a gorgon. This led to the three being known as the “Gorgon Sisters.” While many people brush it off as being irrelevant, Oda is known to have a tendency for wordplay. Bearing in mind the revelation about Luffy’s Devil Fruit in Wano, it is completely plausible to assume that Oda can pull off something like that again.
What Is The Mystery Behind Hancock’s Devil Fruit?
Just likeLuffy’s devil fruit is a Mythical Zoan, it is possible that Boa Hancock also possesses a Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit, and she may or may not know about it. If it is a Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit, then it would have to be Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Medusa. Why Medusa? According to Greek mythology, Medusa was an ordinary woman who was turned into a gorgon by the furious goddess Athena. After being turned into a monster, Medusa was considered one of the most dangerous monsters in Greece. She could petrify anyone who looked into her eyes.
In addition to their powers being the same, the two also share a tragic backstory. The reason why Athena turned Medusa into a gorgon was because Poseidon violated the poor woman on the floor of the temple. Since the Goddess could not do anything about Poseidon, she decided to punish Medusa. Hancock, an innocent young girl, was kidnapped and sold to the Celestial Dragons. She had to endure a lot of humiliation. Given the fact that Hancock could possibly have a Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit, it’s not surprising to see Blackbeard trying to get his hands on it. For now, it remains to be seen whether Oda really has some kind of plan for Hancock and her Devil Fruit. Oda will answer all these questions and more in the final saga, that’s for sure.
