As is the case with every newMortal Kombat 11DLC fighter, many wondered how she would perform in the current meta, how she would compare to other fighters, and perhaps how she would even compare to otherMortal Kombat 11DLC fighters. Now that she’s out, fans of the Queen of Edenia have their answer - while it will take more time to properly case her onto any full tier list, she’s a competitiveMortal Kombat 11fighter through and through.

For those who are unaware, Sindel is the latestMortal Kombat 11fighter to join the roster, coming equipped with some powerful moves and a new backstory. Understandably,Sindel’s retconhasn’t proved to be too popular thus far, but since that doesn’t really influence gameplay, that’s neither here nor there. What matters to many is how she plays, how she will compare to their mains, and whether or not she should be considered for a main.

Everyone’s playstyle is different, so the first thing anyone will realize about Sindel is that her basic attacks are slower than one might think. The pre-releaseMortal Kombat 11gameplay footage showed a ton ofpowerful combos for Sindel, but it didn’t make clear that anything less makes her much slower than some, particularly her low attacks. It’s worth mentioning that she is still quicker than the Terminator, who is often described as sluggish, but will likely lose most contents where speed is the determining. For Terminator, his balance for his low speed comes in the form of his raw strength; for Sindel, it’s her wide variety of attacks and reach.

Her reach is perhaps the biggest component. Between her Banshee screams and her Kwan Do, Sindel’s vertical and horizontal reach is top notch compared to otherMortal Kombat 11fighters. It’s hard to say if she has the furthest reach in terms of combat manuevers, but it’s a solid balance for her slightly slower playstyle, though she may not be an ideal main for someone who prefers more direct, heavy-hitting, and aggressive tactics. In contrast, Sindel is a more technical fighter than some.

Her mobility in this regard and her broad range of combo potentials makes her an idealMortal Kombat 11main for those who prefer this style of fighter, and truthfully, it wouldn’t be surprising to see her enter any tournament play. Combined with a variety of control combos,Sindelcould prove to be far better than at first glance; it just takes getting to know her character.

Roughly, it’s hard to say where she would fall into aMortal Kombat 11tier list, but there’s list doubt she would find herself on the upper side of it where, in the right hands, Sindel can easily best A, B, or C rank characters like Shao Kahn or the Kollector. Where she may struggle is characters with speed like Liu Kang, but still, many could easily consider her A+ or S depending on their own playstyle.

From a design perspective, she is aesthetically gory and pleasing to play. From her brutality toall of Sindel’s fatalities, someone looking for a fun time with a little flare doesn’t have to look much further than Sindel. What’s clear about this DLC is that the Queen of Edenia has arrived and won’t be forgotten. Compared to other fighters in the game, she will find herself cast among the best a lot, and specifically compared to the various DLC fighters, she may be regarded as one of the best post-launch additions toMortal Kombat 11.

Mortal Kombat 11is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, Switch, and Xbox One.
