Fanged Wyverns are a category of monster that’s reserved for quadrupedal wildlife bearing sharp fangs and claws. While this distinction usually doesn’t matter to the averageMonster Hunter Worldplayer, those who are looking to maximize their farming efficiency will want to know which monster is which.
There are elements ofMonster Hunter Worldthat will have players tracking monsters according to category. Here’s a complete list of all Fanged Wyverns in the game tohelp you save some time.
Iceborne
As a general rule of thumbacross allMonster Huntergames, if it has sharp teeth, has no wings, and walks on four legs, then it’s a Fanged Wyvern (unless it’s an Elder Dragon of some sort). If you’re ever unsure about what type of Wyvern a monster is, then you can refer to your in-game Hunter’s Notes to make sure.
Normally, quests and investigations will specifically tell you what Fanged Wyvern you’re supposed to hunt. However, if you’re in the Guiding Lands and are trying to complete your Fanged Wyvern Analysis, then you’re able to make progress with that by hunting any of the large monsters listed above. Breaking monster parts and carving broken/severed tails also count toward analysis progress, so make sure to fully destroy a monster’s breakable regions before killing or capturing it. Collecting tracks and examining Turf War signs can also grant progress.
Gameplay-wise, Fanged Wyverns typically rely on any combination of agility, brute force, and elemental attacks. They’re fairly easy to deal with in melee combat, but their speed and tendency to move around a lot can make them a little frustrating for ranged and heavy weapon users. Of course,behaviors differ per monster, and some weapons and playstyles will be effective against some more than others.
For Hunters in the Guiding Lands, it may take a while before you can complete Fanged Wyvern Analysis. Not all actions will contribute towards it, but it will eventually get finished as long as you hunt the right monsters. Killing the smaller ones like the regular Jagras and Wulgs may not contribute any points towards Fanged Wyvern Analysis, but don’t gloss over them completely. You might need their parts for crafting gear and certain pieces of Layered Armor.
