Summary
Spoilers Ahead for Lies of P
Lies of Pmay be in a lot of fans’ rearviews now if they have found other games to move on to in such a bustling fall for game releases. However, with many secrets to uncover in New Game Plus and a speedrunning community forLies of Pthat is still discovering the most cursed zip skips it has to offer, it is easy to see whyNeowiz’sPinocchioSoulslikeis as popular as it is. It’s not that every Soulslike made by someone other than FromSoftware is expected to be bad, butLies of Pdemonstrates a quality that fans maybe weren’t expecting, and how much it correlates to FromSoftware games such asBloodbornehave still been a boon for it.
Likewise, not every FromSoftware game is considered perfect, even by fans deeply rooted in Soulslike communities. That said,Bloodborneis revered for multiple reasons, and a lot of that reverence might be a result of it being an untouched IP that fans have longed to see more of since it was originally conceived and launched in 2015.FromSoftware games have easily become popular afterBloodborne, too, but none have been able to match the unique experienceBloodborneafforded. Now, whileLies of Pmay have achieved that, it even has an opportunity to succeed whereBloodbornehas failed.

Lies of P’s Ending Explicitly Establishes a Shared Universe, Not Just a Sequel
Lies of Ptells a wonderfully dark fantasy take on the source material it adapts, and if that’s all it was it would still be an incredible, distilled experience. Rather, once players complete the game, they will be made aware that Neowiz has plans to craft a dark fairy tale universe of sorts andLies of Pis only the stepping stone for its larger narrative.
The post-credits stinger explicitly informs fans that a Soulslike—orLies of P-like—ofThe Wizard of Ozis in the works, where players would likely swap protagonists from Pinocchio to Dorothy and potentially traverse a dreadful take on the Emerald City.Bloodbornefans have been desperate for a sequel, remake, or remaster, let alone a patch that would give it a higher framerate, andLies of Preleasing a sequel beforeBloodbornereceives anything of that ilk would be incredibly impressive.

Still, it’s unclear whether this would be a dedicated sequel or not, butNeowiz’s Korean job posting details may have also revealedLies of PDLC. If true, it’s fully possible thatThe Wizard of Ozmight simply be a DLC expansion, and that would be a mistake.
Lies of P’s Wizard of Oz Tease Deserves a Full Sequel, Not DLC
The potential for theLies of PIP has become outrageously exciting with this knowledge, and Neowiz hopefully won’t squander that by restrictingThe Wizard of Ozto DLC. It will be fantastic ifLies of Preceives DLC likeBloodborne’s Old Hunters, where players are sent back in time to perhaps explore the exploits of Carlo, Romeo, or someone else that the base game touches upon.
Nonetheless, properties as large asThe Wizard of Oz’s musical whimsy should absolutely deserve to be featured in their own games as sequels if not spin-offs.Bloodbornehad a phenomenal DLC expansion andLies of P’s has a chance to be equally terrific, though if a branching universe is truly being woven it would be great forLies of Pto already exceed whatBloodbornehas achieved with a full-blown sequel.
Lies of Pis available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
