There are a lot of great characters inGod of War Ragnarok, though few stand out as much as the God of War himself, Kratos. In previous installments of the series, Kratos was adventurous and made many enemies during his quest to demolish the Greek pantheon. However,God of War Ragnarokdevelops his character in an unexpected direction building off the 2018 reboot, making him a loving father whose sole goal is to ensure his son’s safety.

With the God of War now hoping to live a peaceful, quiet life, fans get to see him in a new light through many great scenes. As expected, a lot of the best moments inGod of War Ragnarokrevolve around Kratos and how he interacts with various members of the cast.

Kratos Has an Intense Fight With Thor in the Beginning

In 2018’sGod of War, Kratos and Atreus defeated and killed Thor’s sons, Magni and Modi. The God of Thunder understandably wanted to get his revenge, and visits Kratos' home in the beginning ofGod of War Ragnarokalongside the All-Father, Odin. The Asgardians offer a peace treaty with Kratos at first, but after he refused,Thor attacks the Spartan warrior.

This battle between the Gods of War and Thunder is one of the best in the game. Thor uses Mjolnir to bring Kratos far away from his house, and beingunsure if Atreus was safearound Odin, Kratos is left with a concerning disadvantage until the Leviathan Axe arrives. However, Kratos doesn’t use his full strength until the end of their fight, ultimately satisfying Thor. Worrying about Atreus, Kratos rushs home and is relieved to see that his son made it out safely, too.

Kratos Leads the Nine Realms to a War Against the Asgardians

Shortly after his fight with Thor, Kratos and Atreus find Tyr, the Norse God of War, who joined them on their journey. However, toward the end of the game, Tyr is revealed to beOdinin disguise, and kills one of Kratos' other companions: Brok. Kratos and his allies gather forces from across the Nine Realms to fight Odin and his army in Asgard, bringing about the prophecy of Ragnarok.

In the middle of the fight, Thor’s daughter Thrud teams up with Kratos. Upon seeing them together,the God of Thunderbecomes worried about his child and attacks the God of War. Kratos defeats Thor and explains that he didn’t wish any harm against the God of Thunder or his child. When the All-Father realized that Thor wouldn’t follow the orders he gave anymore, Odin murders Thor.

The All-Father then decides to fight Kratos, who is joined by Freya and Atreus. The three of them managed to defeat him, with Atreus trapping Odin in a marble after Kratos encourages him to choose the right path. Brok’s brother Sindri then shatters the marble to kill Odin, but it was only because of the God of War’s role in this battle that the Norse troops could rise to victory and protectthe Nine Realms.

Kratos Learns What Comes Next

After the battle between Kratos' army and the Asgardians, Atreus tells his father about his plans to find the remaining giants.Kratos, knowing that his son can now take care of himself, shares a heartwarming good-bye that shows how Kratos has become a better father throughoutGod of War Ragnarok.

This final interaction between the two protagonists takes place in front of a prophecy that Angrboda showed them. After Atreus embarks on his new journey,Kratos looks at the prophecyto discover that he is destined to be worshiped for his role in saving the Nine Realms. Despite being the God of War, Kratos had actually never been worshiped before, and he cries at the thought of finally moving past his destructive nature and getting the love and praise he deserves.
