Knockout Cityscored a major spotlight today as part of Electronic Arts' EA Play Live games showcase, featured alongside games likeBattlefield 2042and the newDead Spaceremake. That’s despiteKnockout Citylaunching in May, showing just how much faith EA has in the project. The EA Play Live showcase was spent focusing onKnockout City’s next major content update, as developer Velan Studios revealed plans for the game’s upcoming Season 2 start.
Season 2 ofKnockout Cityis picking up a fun new theme, titled Fight at the Movies. Accompanying the announcement is a fun trailer cut as if it was a teaser for an upcoming summer movie, with various in-game moments captured as if they were scenes fromdifferent genres of film. The trailer also confirmed a variety of new content that will be added in Season 2, as well as Season 2’s release date of July 27.

Players will be excited to hear thatKnockout Citywill be receiving a good amount of new content, too. Velan Studios has clearly been preparing forKnockout City’s first major post-launch update, knowing that it’s going to prove just how much staying power thedodgeball multiplayer gamewill have long-term. That’s because many live service games break on their first update, as they’re unable to retain the number of players from launch necessary to sustain routine seasonal content drops.
To start,Knockout Citywill be adding a brand new map for Season 2. Befitting theFight at the Movies theme, the new map is named Holowood Drive-In. This isn’t just any map, either. It’s built to dynamically change, offering multiple different experiences depending on what movie “set” spawns. Sets include a medieval castle, a pyramid, a romantic setting with a large bridge, a rooftop with a bell, a cybercity with skyscrapers, and a humongous bedroom.
Knockout City Season 2 Content
On top of the new map, a variety of new gear will be introduced inKnockout CitySeason 2. Much of the gear will be themed after film and Hollywood, all touched with a bit of futuristic flair. For example, there’s a celebrity outfit with star glasses and an award trophy, and also aGodzilla-like monster outfit.
The last big gameplay addition for Season 2 is something Velan Studios is calling the Soda Ball. The Soda Ball, when used, splashes the player’s screen with bubbly pink drink, temporarily blinding them to their surroundings. It’s a great way to take a player out of the action, however briefly, and serves as agreat new dodgeball weapon.
Beyond gameplay-affecting content additions, all of the regular live service stuff will also berefreshed for Season 2 ofKnockout City. That means new cosmetics, new playlists, a new season of League Play with its own new rewards, and new Crew Contacts each week.
Knockout Citylaunched on May 21, meaning Season 2 is delivering a range of new free content for players after a short period of just two months. That’s a rapid pace for any live service game, but if Velan Studios can keep that routine down it means a lot of exciting content arriving inKnockout Cityfor its growing playerbase to enjoy. Perhaps it’s no surprise EA featured it during itsEA Play Live event.
Knockout Cityis available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
