Summary
Maki Zenin is one of the strongest sorcerers currently inJJKand fans have been made aware of what she’s capable of over the course of the Culling Game arc.Maki has reached unprecedented levels of powerand can be compared directly to Toji before in terms of power and skill. In fact, Maki has an even higher ceiling, since she can grow even further in terms of strength and achieve incredible things in combat. As such, one would expect Maki to have a very important role in the Culling Game arc, especially in the most difficult battles, such as those fought against the likes of Sukuna and Kenjaku.
As has been clear in the story already, Kenjaku is now dead, which means that Maki will not be fighting against him. Instead, her role is likely going to be against Sukuna, however, as the battle continues, she is nowhere to be seen, which has confused the fans, somewhat. However, Maki’s role is certainly going to be a very interesting one.
Where Is Maki?
The very first question that every fan of JJK right now has in their heads is pertaining to Maki’s whereabouts. She is nowhere to be seen in the story at this point in time. Fans last saw Maki when Gojo died. Her first reaction was to calm down Yuta by placing a hand on his shoulder. After that, Maki was nowhere to be seen. Following Gojo’s death, the sorcerers from Jujutsu Tech took various measures to fight. First and foremost, they waited for Kashimo to make his move against Sukuna and as soon as he died, the likes of Yuji, Higuruma, Ino, and Kusakabe jumped into battle against the King of Curses. Meanwhile, Hakari jumped into battle against Uraume and all of them have, since then, been fighting.
Meanwhile, Yuta took a very important role as he headed out to hunt down Kenjaku. It was Talaba who was taking him on in combat and he did that brilliantly, drawing him in with the power of soul resonance and making sure that he had no idea of where Yuta was. By the end of this battle, Yuta snuck up on Kenjaku in such a manner that he had no idea of what struck him. Yuta decapitated him in the most shocking manner, completely getting rid of this villain for good. Yuta then managed to kill him by stabbing him directly in the brain.
More importantly, the many cursed spirits that were leaving Geto’s body were dealt with by Rika. From there onwards,Yuta jumped back to the battle against Sukunaand joined up with Yuji. These two have been engaging in combat against Sukuna ever since.
All that is to say that Maki is currently elsewhere and is waiting for the perfect opportunity to join the battle. Kenjaku is now dealt with, the only threat that remains is Sukuna and that only means that Maki will end up joining this battle at some point and playing an important role here. For now, Yuta has expanded his domain and he intends to finish things off there. Maki must be patiently waiting for the opportunity to make her move and she could do so in the most intriguing of manners, which might take even the King of Curses by surprise.
How Maki Can Join The Battle Vs Sukuna
Maki can and most likely will join the battle against Sukuna at some point and it shouldn’t be difficult for the fans to figure out how that is going to be possible. Maki’s very power makes her the perfect candidate to join the fight against Sukuna. For one, she possessed no curse energy at all. Maki cannot be detected by others and that is the essence of her ability. On top of that, domains simply do not work on her. This is a clear setup for Maki to join the battle when Sukuna least expects it. Inside the domain expansion, currently, the goal is for Yuji and Yuta to save Megumi. They are doing this by attacking Sukuna’s very soul directly. Yuta plans to use Jacob’s Ladder when the opportunity is right and cleanse Sukuna from Megumi’s body. Meanwhile, Yuji is using his soul capture and punches to weaken Sukuna’s hold over Megumi and lower his cursed energy output. Megami looks like he’s going to be saved very soon.
Currently,Sukuna’s entire focus is on these two characters, however, he will have no idea of Maki joining the battle, if she does.
The fact is that Maki cannot be detected by anyone and Yuta’s domain simply cannot keep her out either, since domains do not work on her. She can sneak up on Sukuna undetected and he won’t even be able to tell when she does because he won’t be able to recognize her without her cursed energy in the first place.
Maki’s Role Vs Sukuna
Maki’s role against Sukunais going to be the same that the other characters have and that is to save Megumi Fushiguro. Maki and Megumi have a special bond and these two hold each other dear, even if the story has not focused on that aspect of their relationship much. Maki entering the domain expansion of Yuta at some point should be a given.
The perfect strategy here would be for Maki to wait for the best opportunity and launch a sneak attack on Sukuna. As for how she can do it, fans must remember that Maki wields the soul split katana. This katana directly targets the soul of the user in ignores all natural defenses. This means that Maki can essentially do what Yuta and Yuji are trying to do with their own powers. She can’t split Sukuna from Megumi and the rest would then be up to the other two. Using her amazing cursed tool,Maki can save Megumi and this would then fulfill her incredible rolein this amazing battle.
From there onwards, the battle will either be won, or if Sukuna pulls out some other technique, then Maki will have to team up with Yuta and Yuji, and fight it out. Fans can only hope that she doesn’t die in this incredible fight and that, in the end, she is triumphant, just like Yuta and Yuji will most likely be at the end of their battles.
Of course, Gege could have an entirely different role for her altogether, however, based on the dangers that are currently in front of these fighters, it is inevitable for Maki to follow in similar footsteps and fight against the King of Curses in order to save Megumi. Whether or not she will truly be able to do that is something that fans will have to wait to see. After all, this is a series where anyone can die and Maki is certainly not going to be any exception.
