HBO Max’sPeacemakerhas quickly become the most popular streaming series out there, and one look at the strange and hilarious show is all the proof anybody needs as to why that is. Gunn, who created the show as a spinoff to his excellent filmThe Suicide Squad, has no doubt been enjoying the reception, as he’s regularly been seen answering fan questions and offering his own tidbits of info on Twitter. Peacemakerepisode 5featured a bit of a bonding experience among John Cena’s titular wannabe hero and his new team. This was helped along by a shared interest between Cena’s character and Steve Agee’s John Economos in Finnish rock band Hannoi Rocks, whose hit song “11th Street Kids” inspired the team’s chosen unofficial name for themselves. Jennifer Holland’s Emilia Harcourt snapped a picture of the crew during a particularly jovial moment, capturing one glorious shot of levity among newfound friends. Now, Gunn has finally released the photo itself, which only got a short glimpse during the actual episode.
Looking like an actual behind-the-scenes photo, the image features Cena and Agee’s aforementioned characters enjoying a shared laugh and sing-along with Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo in the driver’s seat andFreddie Stroma as Adrian Chase/Vigilanteboth enthusiastically joining in on the fun. Holland’s Harcourt isn’t in the picture itself, but she’s seen later in the episode looking at the picture fondly before sending it to the rest of the team. Gunn shared the full-resolution version of the picture to set off one of his regular Twitter watch parties where he basically live tweets background info on an episode as he watches through it along with the fans.
Possibly one of the best things about this picture is how genuine it looks. It’s not expertly framed, plus several characters are blurry due to their very real and very physical fits of laughter. Obviously, it was staged for the show. But it’s clear thatthe cast ofPeacemakerhas a ton of funbehind the scenes, and that quality comes through in the photo.
Peacemakeris a great timethrough and through, from its now-legendary opening credits sequence to the random tangents that almost feel like a requirement for each episode. It’s great to know the cast has as much fun off-screen as they do on, and heartwarming images like this really ramp up the potential enjoyment factor.
