With less than a month to go before the release of the DC Comics-inspired fighting game,Injustice 2, NetherRealm Studios has decided to give fans a taste of the venomous move set of the Batman baddie Poison Ivy with a trailer all her own. Although she has been showcased before along the likes ofCatwoman, Cheetah, and Black Canary, this time around, Poison Ivy’s botanically-rooted skills are on full display against a handful of DC’s iconic characters.
As seen below in the trailer for Poison Ivy, the villain is a potent force of nature to deal with in battle, for she seems to excel at almost every aspect of the game’s combat system, by using long-to-mid range projectiles in the form of toxic blasts, quickly flurried chains of punches and kicks, fauna-based assists that add multipliers to combos, and close-range grapples that stun and incapacitate opponents. Not to mention, her super move inInjustice 2is quite a sight to behold, as it involves ensnaring opponents with a vine to throw them to be eaten by a giant plant monster akin to the one inLittle Shop of Horrors.
While Poison Ivy’s move set inInjustice 2definitely looks to be fearsome, it will be interesting to see how her skins are able to be altered throughout progression of the game with the title’sgear system. Since a lot of her abilities involve plants, it’s a wonder as to whether or not the flowers and fauna supporting her will shift in color with each costume change, too.
Interestingly enough, Poison Ivy isn’t the only character inInjustice 2whose move set relies on the vegetative world to give her strength and abilities against the DC Universe’s wide range of characters. As a matter of fact, the heroes have an eco-friendly fighter on their side in the form ofSwamp Thing, who has entered into the fray to presumably protect the natural order of the world’s plant life.
Bearing all of this in mind, there’s no telling if NetherRealm Studios has any other character reveals planned forInjustice 2before the title’s launch, especially since the most recent spate of gameplay videos have been more focused on showing off the abilities of heroes and villains that have already been unveiled to the public. That said, though, it’s quite possible for the developer to save some of its biggest surprises forInjustice 2as it gets closer to the game’s reveal in May.
Injustice 2is set to release on July 22, 2025 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
