The gaming industry has evolved by leaps and bounds to becomeone of the most immersive and popular entertainment mediums of all time. Players can’t wait to get their hands on the latest titles to perfect their combat strategies, chill out, strain their minds, or accomplish anything else that might suit their fancy. After all, gaming is so diverse that there’s something that’s bound to cater to someone’s interests and preferences.

There are countless games thatfocus extensively on their characters and their relationships, with these factors sometimes being almost as important as the gameplay. In fact, some of these characters end up sharing such sizzling chemistry that most people fail to understand how they never ended up together. The following couples are the perfect examples of such a dilemma.
8Nathan Drake & Chloe Frazer (Uncharted)
Unchartedis one of the first series that comes to mind when considering licenses recognized for their character work. The franchise is full to the brim withsome amazing figures who are a joy to interact with and control, with each entry building on the last to giveUncharted’s characters a sense of growth.
In the second game, players are introduced to the charismatic Chloe Frazer. While she does have a fling with Nathan, the two never really get the time to flesh out their relationship and end up leaving each other sooner rather than later.

7Samus Aran & Adam Malkovich (Metroid)
Samus Aran is one of the coolest video game characters of all time. The manner in which she destroys alien threats in her Power Suit is quite a blast to witness, literally at times!
However, not all the games in the series have been beloved by the masses. A great example of this isMetroid: Other M, which casts Samus' character in an extremely poor light and makes her heavily dependent on her commander, Adam Malkovich. Samus and Adam aren’t involved romantically at any point inOther MorFusion, so this presentation felt over-the-top.

6Master Chief & Cortana (Halo)
The logistics of being in a relationship with a computer program can be quite tricky. This is perhaps the most logical reason why Master Chief and Cortana never enter into a romantic relationship inHalo.
While their bond was pretty solid before the most recent entries shook their dynamic to the core, Chief and Cortana never really take things to the next level, which is perhaps for the best. However, that doesn’t stop certain people unfamiliar with thecore story ofHaloto think that both characters are actually more than just friends.

5Gordon Freeman & Alyx Vance (Half-Life)
It would be hard for a character who is unable to utter a single word to enter into a relationship with anyone. As a result, the pairing of Gordon and Alyx Vance can seem rather out there and not really appropriategiven the setting of theHalf-Lifegameseither.

Of course, that’s not to say that this won’t be an interesting dynamic to explore in the series at all. However, until the next piece of revolutionary hardware comes up, it seems that players will have to stay in the dark about the potential of this relationship for a while longer.
4Cloud Strife & Tifa Lockhart (Final Fantasy 7)
Final Fantasy 7is one of the most iconic video games of all time, in no small part due to its lovable cast of amazing characters. The protagonist, Cloud Strife, is especially notable in this regard.
While his love interest Aerith meets an untimely death at the hands of Sephiroth, he does have a source of comfort in the form of his childhood friend Tifa. In fact, it’s also implied that the two ended up admitting their feelings, butthis aspect was neither explored thoroughly in the gamesnor shown inFinal Fantasy 7: Advent Children.

3Sonic The Hedgehog & Amy Rose (Sonic)
TheSonicfranchise is a property that everyone loves to hate. While it’s true that the franchise’s outings in the 3D landscape have been a mixed bag, the characters have still been pretty consistent and a lovable part of this series.
The main character, Sonic, is shown to have an ardent admirer in the form of Amy Rose, who openly declares her feelings for the blue Hedgehog more often than not. However, the Blue Blur never really reciprocates Amy’s love throughout the series, which is bound to be a source of frustration for many people.

2Mario & Princess Peach (Super Mario)
Mario is easily one of the most popular gaming characters of all time; in fact, a convincing argument can be made that Nintendo’s character is gaming’s most iconic mascot. Throughout the mainline platforming series, the plumber is shown saving Princess Peach from Bowser time and time again.

However, it seems that Princess Peach never really jumps into a relationship of any sort with Mario. It seems that the plumber is either too shy about his feelings or is a bit too abrasive about them, but the two have never really been an official couple in anyMariogame.
1Link & Zelda (The Legend Of Zelda)
The Legend of Zeldais one of the most iconic action-adventure games of all time. The stature of this franchise was brought to a whole new level withBreath of the Wild, which most people consider to bethe greatest open-world game of all time, and for good reason.
The two main characters, Link and Zelda, are shown in a pretty close and friendly capacity. However, these two characters never really get involved romantically throughout this long-running series… at least, not in an overt manner.
