With the 1.6 Update arriving inStardew Valley, you now have the opportunity to adopt every pet in the game, transforming your farm into a delightful animal shelter. However, Marnie is cautious and won’t allow irresponsible villagers to become pet parents. Therefore, if you wish toadopt all pets in the game, you must first prove to her that you are a trustworthy owner. This guide will help you discover all the new pets introduced in the latest version of the game and teach you how to adopt each one.
How to Get All Pets
You get one pet for free at the start of each playthrough. In the Spring 20th,Marnie will bring you a cat or dogbased on your choice in the character customization menu. After this,you can adopt more pets by building pet bowls on your farm and purchasing pet licenses.
Adopting all twelve pets(five dogs, five cats, and two turtles)will cost youapproximately 980,000g, considering you receive the first pet for free. This total includes 920,000g for licenses and 60,000g for pet bowls.
There are indeed fourteen pets inStardew Valley 1.6. However, since you cannot purchase the Iridium variants of cats and dogs, the total price mentioned above is calculated for twelve shoppable animals.

New Pets in Stardew Valley v1.6
As of March 2024,Stardew Valleyintroduces three new cat types: White, Black, and Iridium. Additionally, there are three new dog types: Grey, Dark Brown, and Iridium. Furthermore, the new pet species, turtles, includes a regular (green) type and one Iridium (purple) variant.
Marnienow sells two Doghouses, two Cat Trees, and one Birdhouse that you’re able to use as decorative items for your pets.
How to Change or Remove Your Pet
You have the option to eitherchange or remove your petinStardew Valley. To alter a pet’s appearance, gift 500g to theShrine of Illusions located in the Wizard’s basement. (This method only changes the “style” of your pet, not its species.) If you wish to part ways with a companion animal, you cansprinkle some Butterfly Powder on it. This magical dust will transform your animal into a butterfly, permanently removing it from your farm.
