Thankfully, grabbing the necessary items and the recipe book isn’t too difficult if players know where to look. Here’s how to find and use Hefty Furnace Pots in theElden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.

Updated May 31, 2025 by Erik Petrovich: One of the best new crafting recipes in the Elden Ring DLC is the Hefty Furnace Pot. There are a lot of new consumable and throwable Pot-typeitems in Shadow of the Erdtree, but Hefty Furnace Pot might be the most useful. This is because it can be used to decimate Furnace Golems in the Realm of Shadow, but only if you know how to aim them correctly. Otherwise, one risks wasting a limited resource, necessary to create Hefty Furnace Pots in the first place. This guide has been updated to include more details on how to make Hefty Furnace Pots in Shadow of the Erdtree, Hefty Furnace Pot throwing tips, and what specifically you may do to guarantee immense damage against Furnace Golem enemies with this new Pot weapon.
How To Find The Hefty Furnace Pot Recipe In The Elden Ring DLC
Thankfully, grabbing the Hefty Furnace Pot recipe is pretty easy and can be done from the start of the Elden Ring DLC without having to go through any major bosses. To unlock theHefty Furnace Potrecipe, players need to get their hands on the Greater Potentate’s Cookbook [2]. This particular cookbook isfound in Run-Down Traveler’s Rest, a small dilapidated shack that’s found just below the Ellac Greatbridge.
From the beginning of the DLC, head north toward the Three-Path Cross Site of Grace, picking up the Scorched Ruins Site of Grace and theGravesite Plain map fragmenton the way to this central location. Once you meet Freyja and Hornsent, head northeast toward the Ellac Greatbridge, but don’t cross it quite yet.

Instead, head to the left of the bridge, and look for a way down. You should see a small Shack on the cliff outcropping below the bridge. To get the Greater Potentate’s Cookbook [2], look on a body resting against the back of the shack itself.
Picking up the Greater Potentate’s Cookbook [2] will unlock access to the Hefty Furnace Pot in the crafting menu. You don’t need to interact with the Cookbook to learn the recipe, the Hefty Furnace Pot recipe should automatically appear in your crafting menu upon being acquired.

How To Craft Hefty Furnace Pots In The Elden Ring DLC
Hefty Furnace Pots are relatively easy to make, but require one important ingredient: Furnace Visage. Furnace Visage are very rare, and can only be acquired in limited number in the DLC, which makes it important to ration and plan carefully when you want to use a Hefty Furnace Pot inShadow of the Erdtree.
To make Hefty Furnace Pot, players must collect and combine the following ingredients:

It’s also important to note that players will need aHefty Cracked Potto work as a holder when creating theseHefty Furnace Pot. Players will be able tocreate and hold a Hefty Furnace Pot for each Hefty Cracked Potthey have in their inventory. These Hefty Cracked Pots are found all over the Elden Ring DLC in an array of areas.
Redflesh Mushroomcan be gathered from spots all over the Land of Shadow.Ember of Messmerare a bit harder to find and are mainly gathered in Scadu Atlas.Furnace Visagecan be gathered from the Furnace Golem enemies and can also be found on the body of defeated ones across the Land of Shadow.

How To Use Hefty Furnace Pots In The Elden Ring DLC
Players can use Hefty Furnace Pots by equipping them into their inventory and then accessing them as they would a Flask or any other item. Accessing them this way will cause the player to throw them, and the distance they’re thrown can be increased by tilting the camera upward.
Unfortunately, there isn’t much in the way of “aiming” these items so players will need to use trial and error to understand how they work. They always have an arc that goes a little above the center of the screen, so depending on how high you aim, you’re able to alter its distance. If you lock onto an enemy and throw this, you will typically throw it at their feet, and this is not recommended for Furnace Golems specifically.

Hefty Furnace Pots will do decent damage to enemies but theyreally shine when used against the towering Furnace Golems that prowl the Land of Shadow. Tossing one of these items and landing it inthe “basket” of the Furnace Golemwill do immense damage to them. you’re able to throw a Furnace Pot into a Furnace Golem’s basket when standing on a platform above it (only in certain areas), or after knocking it down and running to its head to toss one into its basket while its stunned.
These items can also be used to “wake” a Furnace Golem up,such as the one that is sitting in front of the Ruins of Unte near the Castle Watering Hole Site of Grace. Waking this golem up will allow players to access the hidden area behind it.
