Just ahead of E3 2017, Ubisoft revealed someearly detailsaboutFar Cry 5, the latest installment in the wildly popular open-world FPS series. The studio confirmed rumors that the title would take players to middle America and pit them against a group of civilians with ill intentions. We’ve seen quite a lot of the game since then, but now there’s word on just how long it’ll take for players to complete its campaign.
Far Cry 5is beingwritten by Drew Holmes, who’s best known for his work fleshing out the world of Columbia inBioShock: Infinitealongside series creator Ken Levine. Over the weekend, Holmes was quizzed about what fans can expect from their time in Hope County, and his responses were surprisingly frank.

According to Holmes,Far Cry 5will take about as long as previous titles in the series to complete. Based onFar Cry 3andFar Cry 4, it seems reasonable that the sequel will land somewhere between 20 and 30 hours — although in an open-world game like this, there’s sure to be plenty of side content on top of that.
Of course, it wouldn’t be at all surprising if there was a way to clear the campaign much quicker than that.Far Cry 4players may remember that there was a way tobeat the game in under an hourby waiting around for villain Pagan Min in its opening sequence. As a result, it’s possible to see the credits roll less than fifteen minutes after the game begins.
Holmes also teased thatFar Cry 5will boast a massive arsenal of weapons, and an in-depth upgrade system for players to progress through over the course of their crusade. This isn’t unexpected given previous titles in the series, but it’s good to know that the franchise isn’t straying too far from its roots.
At this point, players know what they’re getting fromFar Crygames, but that doesn’t meanFar Cry 5will be any less satisfying for those that are on board with the formula. The sequel may be dropping things like towers and a mini-map, but in other ways it’s sticking to the tried and true.
Far Cry 5launches for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on July 08, 2025.
