Valve is celebratingHalf-Life’s 25th anniversary in a big way, releasing a sizable new update for the beloved first-person shooter game that fixes bugs, introduces new features, and restores lost content.Half-Lifeis often pointed to as one of the absolutebest video games ever made, and certainly one of the most influential first-person shooter games of all time, and so it’s great to see Valve going all-out to celebrate it.
TheHalf-Life25th anniversary update includes content that was previously unavailable in the Steam version of the FPS. This includes the content found in theHalf-Life Uplinkdemo disc that was previously only available on a CD distributed by magazines and hardware manufacturers. It functioned as a standalone demo forHalf-Lifeback in the day, and now fans can play through it in its entirety on Steam.

Additional restored content includes the classic Valve logo video, music, and menu to match how the game looked in 1998. Fans can also check out the Ivan the Space Biker and Proto-Barney multiplayer skins, based on characters fromHalf-Life’s Alpha build. The Skeleton and Too Much Coffee Man skins fromHalf-Life: Further Datahas also been added as part of theHalf-Life25th anniversary update, alongside dozens of sprays for use in multiplayer.
The newHalf-Lifeupdate doesn’t just restore old content - it also adds brand-new features to the mix. After downloading the update, fans ofHalf-Life’s Deathmatch multiplayer can check out four new maps in the form of Contamination, Pool Party, Disposal, and Rocket Frenzy. They can also utilize the game’s new Widescreen field of view andSteam Deck support, giving fans the chance to play the classic FPS on the go.
