There’s no denying the sheer quality ofThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. In fact, the game has had such a positive effect on gamers that its led GameStop’s senior director of merchandising, Eric Bright, to claimThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wildto be one of the best games in the last decade.
Bright’s candid thoughts on the latestZeldatitle came during a recent interview with Game Rant, where the GameStop senior director discussed the success of the Nintendo Switch and the future of Nintendo’s success. During the conversation, Bright had this to say aboutBreath of the Wild:

“Breath of the Wild, with it being fresh and new content, has fed the Zelda lovers in all of us, so I think it will be pretty hard to match that for a while. I think Breath of the Wild will go down in history as one of the greatest games to be released in this past decade.”
Bright went on to speak glowingly ofBreath of the Wild, and even recommended that those who have the ability should pick up a copy. Bright continued:
“Nintendo is really zeroed in on [providing] high quality games, with Zelda being one of the most highly-rated games we’ve seen a while. It’s pretty much near perfect. If you haven’t played it, you should. Unbelievable that they were able to package this much in a game, and make it portable thanks to the Switch. Just an amazing game.”
Obviously, Bright isn’t the only one who feels this strongly aboutBreath of the Wild. The director ofOverwatchrecently praised theZeldatitle, calling it a “masterpiece,” and critics seem to agree asBreath of the Wildset arecord for perfect scores on Metacritic.
It’s not surprising then to learn that nearly every gamer whopicked up a Nintendo Switch also purchasedBreath of the Wild. There’s little doubt at this point that the strength of the latestZeldais boosting sales of the new Nintendo console.
It will be interesting to see how sales of the Nintendo Switch continue as more games are released for the console. Fortunately for both Nintendo and GameStop,Mario Kart 8 Deluxeis on the horizon and looks to highlight the co-op capabilities of the Switch. Bright shared his thoughts aboutMario Karton the Nintendo Switch:
“Mario Kart without a doubt will be huge. We know the interest from previous sales of Mario Kart, and we know that Mario Kart on the Switch is going to extend that.”
If Nintendo can continue producing high quality games for the Switch likeBreath of the Wild, it wouldn’t be surprising to see theNintendo Switch eventually outperform the Wii.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wildis available now for Nintendo Switch and Wii U.
