Deadlinebroke the news of Ramos, D’Onofrio, and DeHaan joining the cast ofDumb Money. The GameStop movie already included Seth Rogen, Sebastian Stan, Paul Dano, and Pete Davidson, who were all announced to be part of the project in September. All the stars will be taking on individual on-screen roles in the project, which will portray the events of the GameStop squeeze as a David versus Goliath-type tale, with subtle humour worked into the narrative.

The project’s basis on real and recent events is sure to lend it a large audience when it eventually releases, with director Craig Gillespie at the helm to ensure that the film can fully capitalize on both the source material being adapted and the real memories that audiences have of the original event. The popularity of theGameStopshort squeeze event cannot be understated, with several dramatic moments built into the event, such as the instances of theWall Street Bets subreddit being taken downin a seemingly malicious fashion at the height of the stock skyrocketing period.

The all-star cast being assembled is also likely to draw eyes to GameStop movie, with Ramos and D’Onofrio both being a part of the much acclaimed and incredibly popular Marvel Cinematic Universe, amongst other parts, with roles in the upcomingIronheartandDaredevil: Born Again, respectively. Dehaan is also a solid hand in the industry’s upper echelons, having starred inThe Amazing Spider-Man 2and most recently being cast inthe upcoming biographical historical dramaOppenheimer, another star-studded project written and directed by Christopher Nolan. All three new additions, as well as the previously announced stars, will be working on bringing the screenplay by Rebecca Angelo and Lauren Schuker Blum to life.

While things seem to be well placed for MGM to sail to a well-received and star-powered release,Dumb Moneyis not without potential competition from other companies looking to capitalize on the popular event. As early as a few weeks after MGM’s initial announcement, Netflix also announced their intention to develop amovie based on the GameStop stock situation, possibly signalling some stiff competition for MGM and others that may be looking to get in on the action.

Dumb Moneydoes not yet have an official release date.
