Ever since its surprising debut,Fortnite Battle Royalehas been tearing up the charts, from sales, to social media, tostreaming. Most of the game’s success can be attributed to an experience that gamers seem to be addicted to, but it doesn’t hurt that developer Epic Games is willing to constantly updateFortniteto suit players’ requests.
However, most of the changes toFortnitehave been small and focused on the PC version of the game, or the game as a whole. But an upcoming patch might finally offer console players a feature they have been requesting for a long time.

In a thread on Reddit, one of Epic Games’ developers that goes by DustyDevo suggested thatFortnitemight finally be getting an option for console players to edit their button mapping. Responding to an inquiry about controller mapping and aim assist when editing buildings, DustyDevo told a Reddit user to pay attention to next week’s update release notes, because “they should be of interest to you.”
Obviously, this could mean thatFortniteis getting a change to aim assist on console – rumors have surfaced regarding that change already – but most hope that the controller mapping is included as well. Controller mapping is easily one of the most requested features fromFortniteconsole players, as it will greatly improve their viability in battle.
On PC,Fortniteplayers can map individual build elements and weapon slots to specific keys, which allows them to switch between every item on the fly. This is whyFortnitebattles on PC are much more focused on building, whereas console battles are more gunplay-focused. Watch anyFortnitestreamer on PC, and it’s easy to see the advantages of individual key mapping for specific build pieces, not to mention what quicker weapon swapping can offer (double shotgun).
For a game whose most unique element is limited by a controller, it’s surprising thatFortnitehasn’t offered controller mapping sooner. Even something as simple as being able to change the order of build pieces could make a big difference, as many players like to rotate between ramps and walls for added fortification.
For now, the fan base on console is intrigued and will be anxiously anticipating the patch notes of the nextFortniteupdate. New info should surfaced early Thursday morning.
Fortniteis available now for iOS, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
