Square Enix’s highly-anticipatedUncovered:Final Fantasy XVeventunveiled a considerable amount ofFinal Fantasy XVnews and upcoming content, including the game’slong-awaited release date. While there were numerous reveals made at the event, one of the most surprising announcements was the unveiling of an upcoming feature-length CGI film titledFinal Fantasy XV Kingsglaive.
Running parallel toNoctis' storyinFinal Fantasy XV,Kingsglaivetells the story about the Noctis' father, King Regis, and what happens to his kingdom during the events of the game. King Regis will be voiced by Sean Bean, and will feature additional voice performances from Lena Headey and Aaron Paul, who will playFinal Fantasy XVheroine Lunafrena Nox Fleuretand a new character named Nyx Ulric respectively.
The film will be directed by Takeshi Nozue, who previously directedFinal Fantasy VII: Advent Children, and theKingsglaiveteam is primarily comprised of those who also worked onAdvent Children. Other than stating that the film will be out before the game, Square Enix revealed that whileKingsglaivewon’t see a theatrical release, it will be available for fans through streaming or download.

The fact that Square Enix revealedKingsglaivewhile not addressing a few other rumors - such as aPC version ofFinal Fantasy XV-was certainly a surprise to everyone. In fact, the film was kept under wraps so well that Aaron Paul stated that he only started work onKingsglaivea few days ago. The reasons for the game’s delay have been well documented, and producing a full-length CGI film alongsideFinal Fantasy XVsurely played some part in it.
With a newFinal Fantasy XVanime spin-offin the works, as well as the release of theFinal Fantasy XVplatinum demo, Square Enix is making up for lost time in their promotion of the game. Given thatFinal Fantasy XVis expected to be enormous, gamers are going to be spoiled for choice when it comes toFinal Fantasycontent before and after the game’s September launch.
There’s no word on when and howFinal Fantasy XV Kingsglaivewill be released, butFinal Fantasy XVis scheduled for launch on June 07, 2025 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
