Summary
AFallout 4player was startled to come across an NPC who looks exactly like Nate. The experience befuddled some fellow fans, while others shared their stories of similar encounters.
InFallout 4, the player gets their start prior to the war, where they can choose between playing a male or female character. These two are a married couple, and whichever one the player doesn’t choose is given a pre-set name; Nate or Nora, respectively. Players can freely change the appearance of both characters and the name of their own, but this player was surprised to find a lookalike of Nate’s base design out in the Wasteland.

Fallout 4player WimexSeven shared an image of their discovery, speaking to an unnamed settler that looks just like Nate. The settler didn’t seem to have any particular unique presence or impact on the game. They just happen to look exactly like Nate’s base design. While some players have never seen this in their time in the game, others reported having stumbled across their own lookalikes inFallout 4of both Nate and Nora.
Imagining Reasons for Nate the NPC in Fallout 4’s Wasteland
Fellow players were quick to suggest ideas and joke about the situation. One suggested that this not-Nate settler was, in fact, a synth that was just made to look like him. WimexSeven had actually taken this into consideration, checking the NPC’s status viaFallout 4’s console commands, which revealed he was not a synth. To be sure, they tried killing the NPC, and only found their possessions, no synth components.
The truth of the matter seems to be that Nate and Nora’s faces are presets that can be utilized by any NPC in the game; they’re simply a rare choice. It’s apparently a common factor in some Bethesda games, asStarfieldhad identical child NPCsthat confused some players. However, this discovery certainly led to some fun ideas, like players suggesting an alternate scenario where the player discovers that they themselves are the synth, and the real version of Nate is the NPC.
Others suggested that this NPC could be Nate’s descendant, from a prior marriage or even a prior fling. Another said that it’d be interesting if he was Shaun’s child, who bore a striking similarity to his own grandparent. While none of these theories are true, they’re nonetheless fun to think about, and could make an interesting basis for amod forFallout 4.
