Twitchis a platform that hosts a variety of different personalities. The recent inundation of so many high-profile and popular streamers, each commanding their own sizable audiences and communities, has made it increasingly difficult to fully keep up with any ensuing controversies.
Undoubtedly, one of the most commonplace and frequent sources of drama within theTwitchplatform derives from the bans and suspensions streamers often receive. Although 2022 is still relatively in its infancy, the new year has already seen a slew of high-profile bans, all with various reasoning, lengths, and degrees of severity.

Adin Ross Twitch Ban
One of the most recent and high-profile bans on Twitch in 2022 is the recentindefinite ban received by Adin Ross. Ross, who has risen sharply in recent months due to his frequent collaborations with influential figures within the rap scene, has been no stranger to controversy during his rise to popularity.
Having already received criticism across the platform for the potential glorification of gambling throughAdin Ross’s gambling streams, the streamer has also received historical criticism for his exaggeration of homosexual tropes in the name of comedy. Recently appearing on fellow streamer YourRage’s stream via phone call, Ross appeared to use a homophobic slur in reference to someone. Although these claims were initially refuted by both Ross and YourRage, the recent confirmation that the former’s indefinite ban from Twitch was related to hate speech seems to confirm that it was, in fact, Ross on the phone.
ItsSliker Twitch Ban
Another highly popular streamer who recently received a ban is that of ItsSliker. Steadily gaining popularity on the Twitch platform since 2019, ItsSliker is known for his consistent and frequent streaming schedule, with his larger-than-life personality often being the main source of viewership and entertainment.
The reasoning behind ItsSliker’s ban appears to be related to an emote that the streamer used in his own offline chat. Supposedly pasting the emote into his chat to show a viewer who couldn’t see it, the emote was in violation of Twitch’s guidelines, and thus led to the ban. Fortunately for ItsSliker, his recent ban has proven to be much less severe than Adin Ross' ban. After explaining to Twitch the context in which the emote was used,ItsSliker’s ban was recently overturned by Twitchafter only being in place for just one day.
Sodapoppin Twitch Ban
Perhaps the most high-profile ban to come out of 2022 so far on Twitch is thebanning of veteran streamer Sodapoppin in early April. Starting his streaming career within theWorld of Warcraftscene all the way back in 2012, Sodapoppin had been a mainstay of the platform that had only received one single-day ban in his career, prior to the one in question.
While this previous ban was short-lived, the current one is seemingly a lot more concerning in terms of both reasoning and length. While the exact source of bans are not officially stated by Twitch, leading to mysteriousbans such as that of Dr. Disrespect, the reasoning behind Sodapoppin’s ban seems fairly straightforward. While playingAre You Smarter Than the Crowd?on stream, Sodapoppin was painting a character’s face, and referred to it as “blackface” once it became apparent that the painting could be interpreted as a racial caricature.
Sodapoppin has since publicly apologized and stated his innocent intentions, giving further credence as to it being the reason behind his high-profile ban. While many speculated that this ban would likely be a week long, the ban has been in effect for nearly two weeks at the time of writing. It is currently unknown when Sodapoppin will be unbanned, and it remains to be seen ifTwitchwill take any further action.
