One of the biggest news stories out of The Game Awards 2020 wasn’t an announcement, but rather the lack of one. Fans of From Software Games had once again persuaded themselves thatElden Ringwould be shown. Those expectations were unfortunately unmet, asElden Ringwas not a part of The Game Awards 2020. Before From Software fans let themselves fall back into depression, however, a new report hints thatElden Ringnews may not be as far away as some might worry.
In a recent episode of Jeff Grubb’s GB Decides podcast, he discusses the situation withElden Ring. But to the surprise of many, Grubb apparently has inside information regarding theongoing development ofElden Ringand when more information is planned to be shared. Grubb claims that From Software fans can look forward to new details aboutElden Ringin just a month or two. Grubb clearly doesn’t have firm details about any such announcement but seems sure regarding the time frame.

What Grubb’s been lead to believe is thatElden Ringis in a state of development where it could have been shown duringThe Game Awards 2020if “they” wanted to. For whatever reason, they decided not to. Grubb says they need “a month or two more” before he believesElden Ringwill make an appearance. He makes clear that he’s not talking days, he’s not talking weeks, but also not talking about “months and months” in the future.
While Grubb is certainly a reliable reporter when it comes to leaks, he doesn’t cite his source for this information and he doesn’t sound entirely certain about the time frame. “We’ll see” is the exact language he uses when it comes to saying when to expect moreElden Ring. That implies that this information could change or prove to be not wholly correct, soFrom Softwarefans should remain somewhat skeptical until something is made official.
As for what that timeline means for fans, there’s a new mystery afoot. If there’s anyElden Ringnewsto come on January, February, or even March, then it’ll likely require a convention or event from which to share it. But as we all know, virtually all conventions and events have been canceled, and there weren’t any planned for early 2021 in the first place.
If Grubb’s insider info is current, then in a couple of months there’s likely to be an event of some kind that has yet to be announced. It could be anew Xbox event, asElden Ring’s been advertised in the past as part of Xbox’s programming, or it could be somewhere completely surprising. Regardless, it sounds likeElden Ringfans have something worth looking forward to now.
