Over the past few days,Diablo 4has nerfed the effective experience gain from several dungeons, including the most popular farming spot in the game. The journey to reach the level cap andchallenge the Pinnacle Boss inDiablo 4demands plenty of patience and takes a lot of effort. Though many streamers have enjoyed success in getting there several times across different characters, mostDiablofans take a more measured approach to their leveling.

In the absence of Rifts fromReaper of Souls, theexperience farm inDiablo 4revolves around select Nightmare Dungeons with a higher-than-normal monster density. In contrast to its predecessor, the instances and open world inDiablo 4are less densely packed with hostile mobs, slowing down the gameplay in an effort to emphasize the quality of encounters as opposed to the quantity. It’s generally accepted thatDiablo 4has some truly unique enemies to fight, but at the end of the day, many players prefer the simple joy of watching an entirely crowded screen evaporate with the press of a few buttons.

The main hangout for players ascending theWorld Tiers inDiablo 4used to be the Ruins of Eridu in the Region of Hawezar. As a dungeon, it had the objective to “Slay All Enemies” and after a certain amount were killed, it would spawn additional Elite packs on top of a random player, causing the experience gain to rack up significantly amidst the ensuing carnage and mayhem. Prior to Ruins of Eridu, players had Champion’s Demise as their favorite farming spot, but it seems that Blizzard is targeting anyDiablo 4dungeon that proves to be an optimal farming choice for experience. Needless to say, players haven’t been happy about it.

The news was shared by darK_Cam on theDiablo 4subreddit, and even websites such as Wowhead covered the experience nerf through several testing sessions. The consequence of the nerf reduces the amount of Elites that can spawn in Ruins of Eridu, effectively halving the amount of experience thatDiablo 4players can earn when repeatedly running this dungeon. Blizzard confirmed the nerf via patch notes for the latest 1.0.2 hotfix, as the community now scrambles to find the best alternative toleveling up inDiablo 4.

As commendable as Blizzard’s dedication is to fixingDiablo 4, the reality of the situation is that players will always find the most optimal routes to reach their intended destination. Nerfing one option won’t eliminate the problem, it will simply move it elsewhere. If the string of nerfs continues to reduce mob density in popular dungeons simply because they’re good leveling options,Diablo 4may end up having a very tedious path to endgame – effectively burning out a chunk of its playerbase before they have a chance to start their journey at Level 100.

Diablo 4is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
