AlongsideDestiny 2’s Season of the Haunted came a massive patch that addressed components in several areas of the game, including in-air accuracy, flinch resistance, general sandbox changes, and more. Among the most unexpected changes, players were greeted with a significant buff to one of the core six stats inDestiny 2– Resilience. Resilience now grants a whopping 40%damage resistance inDestiny 2’s PvEat Tier 10 and has rapidly become one of the most important stats players can invest into, which was an interesting design choice on Bungie’s side.
As such, it may seem like Resilience is a bit over the top in terms of performance compared to the remaining stats inDestiny 2, especially those other than Discipline and Strength, which already have an effect on grenade and melee ability regeneration. Resilience is in fact a bit too important in the current meta, but Bungie shouldn’t reverse its decision whenSeason of the Hauntedis over; rather it should seize the opportunity to further improve the remaining stats in a way that makes Resilience less mandatory and buildcrafting more rewarding.

How Bungie Should Handle Destiny 2’s Stats After Buffs to Resilience
It’s not uncommon for Bungie to turn back on some changes at a later point in time and make further changes to balance the meta differently, but this shouldn’t be the case for the current situation of stats and the importance of Resilience. This stat has been the underdog for a very long time, and it makes sense from an RPG point of view to tie Resilience with damage reduction even more than it does increase the base HP of a character. Yet,Destiny 2has a total of six stats, and if Resilience, Discipline, and Strength are now in a good place, this leaves out the rest.
Recovery was the go-to stat for pretty much every build inboth the PvE and PvP ofDestiny 2for a long time, but the changes to Resilience made Recovery less relevant because it’s best to massively reduce the damage one takes than heal a second or two faster. However, Recovery could still be much more useful than it currently is by improving either the regeneration rate further or by building more features into it, such as increasing the amount of HP players recover from fixed sources.
Mobility is in a weird spot at the moment, as it is mainly used byHunters to reduce their Dodge abilities' cooldowns, but for other purposes and classes, it’s a niche stat at best. What it does is increase the strafe speed and walking speed of a given character the higher the stat is, but this doesn’t apply to sprinting speed, and it’s an overall negligible effect outside some PvP scenarios. As such, Mobility could indeed provide a sprinting speed bonus inDestiny 2’s PvE exclusively without breaking the game, and it would make it a more valuable stat in some activities.
Lastly, Intellect is also a stat that needs a bit of tuning, mainly because it was nerfed with the 30th Anniversary Pack’s sandbox patch to rebalance the use of Supers in the game. However, these changes made Intellect a redundant stat that should be left at Tier 3 whenever possible, but even ignoring it wouldn’t really harm the user too much. Overall,Destiny 2’s focus on buildcraftingshould not mean that a single stat is a must-have compared to others, but buffing the underdogs is always a more interesting solution than handing out nerfs.
