It has been a long and frustrating road forDestiny 2players who are trying to complete the Mysterious Box quest to earn the exotic Izanagi’s Burden sniper rifle. And despite thinking that the quest would be fixed aftera patch this week to mend the problemswith the quest, a new bug has cropped up, once again breaking the quest and making it impossible for players to get their hands on the top-tier Izanagi’s Burden.
Developer Bungie announced today that there are new issues with the quest and that the developer is currently investigating. It appears that the problem is that the quest is not correctly recognizing when players turn in certain items to progress the quest, specificallythe Obsidian Crystal and the Forge Key. Until the issue is fixed, Bungie is telling players not to turn in any of these items because players are reporting them being lost without have any effect in moving the quest forward.

This is especially frustrating when it comes to the Obsidian Crystal, which is earned by completing a Rare Black Armory bounty. Those bounties are extremely rare indeed, having a random chance to drop from completing regular bounties from Ada-1 and then usually taskingDestiny 2players with an objective that is significantly more involved and time-consuming than a normal bounty. So to have that luck and time invested not count to progress the quest when turning in a Rare bounty is leading to a high-point of frustration for players.
Bungie tweeted the issue via its official support Twitter account, and there are dozens of players who have replied and asked for solutions such as having those bugged steps be auto-completed until an official fix can be made to them, or even changing the quest entirely, similar to what happened withthe quests for Jotunn and Le Monarque becoming easier in Shadowkeep. Bungie has yet to give any more details about what a fix may be or when it is expected.
Unfortunately, this particular quest being broken is more of an issue than it probably normally would be becauseIzanagi’s Burden is one of the best weapons in PvEright now, with many groups wanting players to have it when playing the new Garden of Salvation raid. So for new players and for veteran players who never completed the quest are left without a path to earn it until the quest is fixed.
Destiny 2: Shadowkeepis available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Stadia version also in development.
