TheDestinycommunity has been asking for the ability to transfer or access their characters between different platforms since the game released back in 2014 and this request only escalated further when the franchise came to PC for the first time with the release ofDestiny 2. Now it appears that Bungie may not only be looking to introduce cross-saves into the game, but they’ll be making the announcement during tomorrow’sDestiny 2Year 3 stream.
Last week, Bungie announced that they would be revealing the"Next Chapter of Destiny 2"during a livestream that’s set to take place at 10 AM PT on Thursday, June 6th. Community Manager DeeJ teased that the live stream would be looking deeper into the future ofDestiny 2, confirming that the game would continue to be supported with new content and updates.
According to an image found inDestiny 2’sgame files by dataminerGinsor, Bungie has created a logo for cross-saves and released it into the game with theSeason of Opulenceupdate. This is the second potential leak pulled from the update following an image that started circulating online yesterday that appeared to announceDestiny 2’sYear 3 expansionShadowkeepcoming this Fall.
Cross-saving would allow players to create one unified Bungie account with all of their characters and progress saved online. As long as each platform allows for players to sign-in to their Bungie account, the same characters and save files could be used across multiple platformsjust like withFortnite.
Even if Bungie does announce the feature tomorrow, it’s likely that cross-saves would not be introduced into the game until the next big update in Fall 2019. According to Kotaku’s Jason Schreier,Bungie wanted to have characters transfersinDestiny 2from the start but was stopped by Sony, who wouldn’t allow the developer to introduce the feature.
However, considering that Bungie is now self-publishing the franchise and Sony has changed its stance on cross-play over the past year, adding it to games likeFortnite,Rocket Leagueand the upcomingCall of Duty: Modern Warfare, the idea that the company would allow cross-saves no longers seems quite as far fetched.
Destiny 2is out now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
