TheBaldur’s Gatefranchise has gotten a stunning modern revival at the hands of Larian, but the series' console spin-off doesn’t seem to have been so lucky. Fans of theBaldur’s Gatefranchise may findBaldur’s Gate: Dark Allianceto be a mix of fresh and old-schoolideas, some of which hold up better than others. However, it can’t be denied that this title took an approach to action RPG combat that has more in common withDiablothan most otherBaldur’s Gatetitles. A trailer for the PC port shared to the Lewis Burnell YouTube channel does a good job of shedding some light onBaldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance’s approach to enemies, traps, and co-op, among other features.
Apparently,Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliancewill allow players to use Steam remote play for long-distance co-op. This may be good news, as co-op is animportant aspect ofBaldur’s Gate: Dark Alliancegameplay. The trailer also shows off several classic monsters found throughoutDungeons and Dragons, including what appears to be a Beholder, a swarm of animated skeletons, and even a massive white dragon.
Additionally, the trailer highlights a number of elements that seem to be borrowed from the platforming genre. One scene follows a player as they leap across a number of floating stone platforms that drop into the abyss after a few seconds, while other scenes appear to show players jumping over the shockwaves from magical attacks. With thefuture ofDungeons and Dragons: Dark Allianceseemingly up in the air, this may be a good time forBaldur’s Gatefans to return to another classic game.
