Marvel’s Wolverineis set to be a mature game that could perfectly capture the ruthless nature of the character. However, as with any other superhero, Wolverine is only part of what makes his comics so popular, as there are numerous villains and other heroes that often leave a major impact on any of Wolverine’s legendary storylines. So, withMarvel’s Wolverinenow in development, fans will be wondering if the game will have any connections with the upcomingMarvel’s Spider-Man 2.
Following the short reveal ofMarvel’s Wolverine, fans have been wondering if the upcoming game is set in the same universe asMarvel’s Spider-Man. This means there is a strong possibility that the two heroes could cross paths in future titles. To further setup this eventual team-up, Insomniac may use a few characters from the comics that have a shared history with both Spider-Man and Wolverine. Of course, having teams like The Fantastic Fouror the X-Men are obvious choices, but there are a few others that could make it into the games and tie both the games together.

Deadpool
Deadpool is well known for his antics with Wolverine and is also one of manyrecurring characters in Spider-Mancomics, going head-to-head or teaming up with the web-slinger in many issues. Deadpool has also already been in a video game, so Insomniac would have a good example of how to approach his fighting style and personality. Deadpool would be especially great forMarvel’s Wolverinesince he is similarly gruesome, and his powers are best portrayed in a darker setting.
Deadpool is also a great option as he can be the character that hints at the formation of a Marvel Gaming Universe throughout the game. Further, as a fan favorite, a future Deadpool title could help Insomniac continue the tie-ins between the various games. He is also a major figure in some of the best storylines that features both Spider-Man and Wolverine, so Insomniac could use one of Deadpool’s storylines to establish a connected line of games, eventually giving theMerc with a Mouth his own standalone game.

The Hulk
As a member of the Avengers, The Hulk is no stranger to Spider-Man, and the pair have fought alongside each other many times to save the Earth and the rest of the universe in the comics. However, in the comics, his rivalry with Wolverine has led to some of the best fights in comic history. Wolverine first appeared in The Incredible Hulk no. 181, and this very issue wasan easter egg in theMarvel’s Wolverinereveal trailer, making him a viable character to enter the fray in future Insomniac titles.
Having The Hulk would be one of the easiest ways to bring The Avengers into the Insomniac line of games. He would be a great addition to upcoming Spider-Man titles, as he can also introduce dangerous enemies such as Abomination or General Ross.A standalone Hulk game wouldalso be a project that Insomniac could undertake in the future, with the hypothetical title featuring some great gameplay filled with destructive fights.

Mysterio
As one of Spider-Man’s most formidable foes, Mysterio could definitely make an appearance in a future game, especially since his high intellect could make him a difficult boss to take down. He is also a lesser-known Wolverine villain, as he once pushed Wolverine to give up his superhero career after being tricked into killing the X-Men. This darkstory could make its way intoMarvel’s Wolverine, especially since his outfit in theWolverinetrailer hinted at the possibility that he was no longer with the mutant team.
While the storyline in which Mysterio tricked Wolverine is not as well known as some of his Spider-Man moments, it could be the driving force that givesMarvel’s Wolverineits dark theme. As a skilled engineer and brilliant strategist,Mysterio would also be the perfect fitfor a villain that brings all the heroes together and gives them a common foe. In many ways, his character could easily fill the role that Loki had in theMarvel Cinematic Universe, bringing about a major team-up event from Insomniac.

Doctor Doom
As one of the most powerful villains in all of Marvel, Doom has had many encounters with Wolverine and Spider-Man and is a strong contender for a multi-game villain that could also introduce the likes of the Avengers and The Fantastic Four. Doom also hails from New York City, so having him appear in one of the Spider-Man games is not out of the question. Insomniac could also hint at his arrival by usinga member of The Fantastic Fouras a cameo character, which could lead to storylines of future titles and a possible Wolverine and Spider-Man team-up.
While Doctor Doom is not a direct rival to either Spider-Man or Wolverine, his presence in any of their games would perfectly set up a Fantastic Four game in the future. His plans often requirea big team-up in the Marvel Universe, so Doom would work as a villain similar to Thanos in theMCUwho was involved in many of the plots of the films, even when he did not directly appear in the movies. Doom would be a powerful antagonist for the Marvel heroes to take out and could easily assemble a supervillain group to rival the characters from future Insomniac titles.
Insomniac Games has access to a long list of characters that could be added toMarvel’s Wolverineandthe heavily anticipatedMarvel’s Spider-Man 2. While there is a lot more known about the upcoming Spider-Man game, like how it will feature Kraven the Hunter and Venom, there have been very few details given to fans from theWolverinereveal trailer. While the two heroes could meet up in future titles, it would be more beneficial for Insomniac to bring them together using a common character, rather than simply throwing them into a title. No matter what happens, the future of Marvel games seems to be heading in the right direction in the hands of Insomniac Games.
